Default Guys Who Installed Their Own VORTECH S/C

I was wondering how you guys did the oil tap? Ive seen some people saying they got the tap from NAPA but I believe my kit brought it, if its a gold fitting that comes in the back with the oil line/clamps etc.

Also how did you guys do it, it says you need a right angle drill or a low profile drill?

Also I also saw in the bag which brought the oil tap etc.. parts a drill bit with a sharp end etc? how do you use that.

One more thing I have a 5AT keeping it on stock boost (w/e it is) and driving in tiptronic is there any do's or don'ts? All I have is Stillen Exhaust *for now until the bad boy gets put in* then its *SUCK AND BLOW time, lol

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You will need to get a NPT tap at NAPA. The "gold" fitting is the oil return fitting that must be threaded into the hole that you will drill and then tap using the part from NAPA.

"Drill bit with a sharp end" is for cutting the hole in the upper oil reservoir. Some break the seal and remove the cover from the oil reservoir and then drill and use the "cutter". Others, like me, do a "dirty install" and pack the cutter with grease to catch the filings and cut piece. Take it SLOW when cutting.

Not much room to work when doing the "dirty" or "clean" tap. You will need a right angle drill. I found one a Lowes made by Milwaulkee.

While you are doing the install, send your ECU to Technosquare and get the "limited flash". While I prefer to drive using the "tiptronic" the flash will allow you to enjoy your Vortech SC installed on your 5AT in the Auto Mode. You won't be bouncing off the rev limiter.

Ok as of now I am awating on my NKG Iridium LFR6A1X-11, which I was told you just drop them in because they are pre-gapped is this correct?

Also if you take off the oil pan reservoir how do you put,? will i need to buy a new gasket or is it held on by screws/silicone?

and last to clear something up the 3/8 NPT tap is to open the hole bigger and bigger evenly until it reaches the 3/8 size right? Also how do you the mount the 3/8 tap to the drill it lok kinda thick on the opposite end.

Also manual says im supposed to use 5 quarts of SH/CF rated quality fuel? my car has 15k miles. Do you have any idea which type of oil/weight should I buy?

Thanks

It sounds like you should let someone with experience do this for you.Don't put the tap in a drill this should be done by hand drilling the whole is a different story.Good luck with the install.

You are going to save money by doing it yourself, but captj3 might have a point. It sounds like you have received the kit?

Have you had an oppotunity to read the installation manual several times to insure you have everything on-hand before you start?

Check the plug gap before you do the install. You are probably going to find them out-of-the box at 43. Other can comment, but you probably want your gap at 35.

Did the "dirty install", so can't answer your oil reservoir cover question.

The NPT tap is to make threads in the oil reservoir inorder to install the fitting you mentioned in your original thread. Don't even think of using a drill! As was said in the previous post, do it by hand! If you don't have one, NAPA has a handle for the NPT thread tool.

READ THE MANUAL! Go step-by-step! Don't jump around! Be prepared to spend a lot of time on your back doing work. Seek help, especially when you get around to start doing work on top while still working under your car. How good are you with electrical splicing or soldering?

My install was a first for me, but I took my time, sought help and did it over a period of three days. To date, NO MAJOR PROBLEMS!

Default Vortech Supercharger

Hey Z Fans:

I just got back my Z after three weeks of professional installation of my Vortech Supercharger. Before the install, I had already installed the Borla True Dual Cat Back exhaust, and Borla headers.

Boy, am I glad I had this professionally done. Z Car Garage did the install, and it really well done. I'm not a mechanic, and I know I paid a lot of extra money to have it professionally done. Just tuning the car on the dyno produced an extra 40 horsepower, which I don't think an inexperienced garage mechanic would have the talent to do!

I wound up with 383 H.P. at thej rear wheels, starting from a base of 235 H.P. at the rear wheels from stock. Z Car Garage tells me I can get an extra 20 H.P. if I remove the cats, but I don't want a hassle com California smog time.

The installation is not only beautiful, it looks absolutely factory except for some custom painting I had done on the engine cover, and the polished plenum and SC. I also opted for an oil cooler, larger race prepared radiator, intercooler, and high performance cam. I also opted for the three guage pod for water temperature, oil temperature, and boost guage. 7.5 lbs of boost is what they recommend for reliablilty. More boost can get you over 450 H.P. but I saw the Fast and the Furious! I'd rather not have everything blow up in my face!

The Z takes on a whole different personality with the SC. Around town, you'd never know anything was different except for the beautiful whine from the SC(I went for the silencer), and of course rather terrible gas mileage, which wasn't a surprise, and it's not my daily driver.

Hope this information is useful. Enjoy your Z

Regards:

Marcus
