Default Question on non Boost increase mods and engine wear

Hey guys had some rookie questions about engine strain.

Say you take your turbo, which is rated safe to 390 whp and give it a super tune. Now, if you add in things like exhaust and plenum, that should just make the car more efficient with the same boost and increase the horse power.

Then if you do things like lighten the pullies, won't that provide some power and HELP reliability because of the reduction of mass and thus strain? Also, Cams, etc etc.

The magic number people seem to have stated not to go over without a built motor is 400. So I was wondering if you do things that don't up the boost and keep a good tune, is it the HP number that shreds the engine or can you go for more HP via efficency? Sorry I know it is a lame question

I am sure you will get different opinions on this but I think the majority of catastrophic engine failures stem from an incorrect tune.Sure there is a point where the rods or pistons will let go but you see many people making over 400 pretty reliably.Infact there are a few people making over 500 on stock motors.

I intend to find the limit myself. We are going to try to exceed the 500 horsepower mark with my car. Then we will see how long it lasts.I know the safe boost limit on the 91 octane pump fuel we have here is about 11.5 psi with some timing being pulled via some testing we have done.Above this boost level detonation rears its ugly head.So I plan on staying below 10 psi of boost while still running 91 pump ****.

Ofcourse you need big turbos to make this type of power without going crazy with the boost so I used a pair of 60-1 hi-fis for my car.The tuning will be done by myself and will be perfect so the only thing that will kill the car is if the internals will not take the extreme power increase or a bad tank fo gas or other things beyond my control. If it lasts on the dyno then I suspect it will last on the street.Only time will tell.Take care.

Trying not to be **** it's not the Hp rating of an engine that is the deciding factor in safety Tq is.. Tq is the actual force applied to the engines internals...The applied Tq must be below the engines design limit capability or failure wil likely result or some degradation of the engine which in time will result in failure..Hp is the ability to do work.. It's derived from determining how much a HORSE can pull.. Totally arbitrary and meaningless...

We need to start talking and determing what the safe Tq capability of the VQ 35 is and quite talking about Hp.. A safe tune is implicit in the equation of safe..

I would agree.
