when is the ETA??? just think of all of us that had to wait several months on parts after we blew our motors! (that'll make u feel better, but what won't make you feel better is worrying if you'll blow yours!--sorry, had to say it)

Could have it back as soon Sunday otherwise it will be the saturday following. Trust me blowing the motor was a concerned but MRC racing has done several kits and yet to blow a single motor. All 3 owners have tem on there cars as well so while it's not a gaurantee with proper tuning I'm confident in there abilities.

Mrtomcat- I'm doing almost the same setup you have except I'm doing the pullies as well instead of the plenum. How do you find the JWT clutch and flywheel for your day to day driving?

Have you guys tried dropping the motor/tranny as one unit from the bottom? Takes us about 1.5 hours prep time, and then 30 mins of lowering time.

We find no reason to drop the trans... Extra work, to remove exhaust, drive shaft, wiring, bracing, etc... Its very easy to pull it out the top. And we install the clutch on the hoist and lower the engine right back in with 90% of it together, then just reassemble the front and good to go... Takes 3 hours to pull the car in and have the motor on the stand... But everyone has there own ways to do things...

I used to pull them out the top/front....tried it out the bottom...I will never go back.

You dont have to unplug much of anything from the engine..just pull the main harness through the firewall, and rest it on the engine. It's so clean.

But like you said, everyone has their way of doing things.....do work works for you.

looking good.

Are you able to drop the motor back in with the turbocharger compressor oulet pipes attached? How tight is that fit coming from the top/front.

Thats one of the main reasons we drop it in from the top!! If you have installed an APS TT, you know how hard it is to attach the discharge pipes... The motor will fit in from the top with everything attached... And its tighter than a ...... well I'm not going there!! But yes, it fits... Don't want to give away all our secrets but like I said, we don't even unbolt the trans from the car...

Thats not a secret...just a different technique. It's a tight fit for sure...no matter which way you go!

Yeah, we don't pull the motor to do the installs. It does seem like a lot more people are doing it with the engine out. Ed hasn't seen the need to pull the engine out either though.

I am curious to see if it's a matter of just getting the install done quicker, or perhaps it's just easier?

Hi Chris,

There a couple of turbocharger exhaust flange bolts that are literally near-impossible to access with the motor in the car. Even with a cut and modified short wrench, it is a major PITA. Even with the engine on a stand, they are challenging to trq down properly.

But plenty of people have installed the APS kit with the motor in place. Since engine extraction can be done in well under 3 hours, it makes sense for many people to pull the motor out. Even the simple things like removing hose clamps and stock coolant piping, can be significantly expedited by removing the engine first.

Hope that helps.

I pulled the motor out the top no problem,I didn't even take the front off. However re-installing the motor with the turbos looks like it's gonna be real tight.

Lookin good

yea, we did my car with the motor in and allthough possible, never again!!! Like Shariff said, SO MUCH EASIER with the engine on the stand and quicker.. And takes less than 3 hours to pull it out... And we find it better to remove the front of the car so we have more access to certain areas plus we can fit more on the engine when it goes in... Just got to remember to recharge the AC when done!! :-) ... As far as secrets, we made some of our own tools for the install.! Lets put it this way, a bunch of 10mm open ends , some rod, and a welder can go along way!! haha
