Default APS Self Install... It has begun.

So I get home today... I decide... eh, what the hell. It will keep me busy all weekend.

Start tearing apart my car to do the install without the machine shop work...

My bro is helping me, and you can see some of the tear down pictures here...

I found I need to jack the car up a bit more to get under it... And I need spark plugs, and a few other things. Like fender covers, some lights to work later into the night, a crawler, plyers, etc.

We're about 80% done with the tear down. We'll finish the tear down in the morning... Go shopping in the heat... and start the build in the evening tomorrow.

I hope to have the car back together and "stock APS" by Monday. But, I know that won't happen... Something always comes up.

Look mom, I can go deff!

Self-install is pretty hard, especially without a lift, but you seem like you've got a good sized work area there. Have fun!

Yea, it will keep you busy this weekend......and the next too!

Beerz, 80-100hrs is WAY overkill, more like 40-50hrs

Two guys who self installed said it took them about that long to install and get all the bugs worked out. Guess it depends on the installer.

I had about 35 hrs into my install not counting installing gauges. I had another person with me on about 2/3 of that time. I would bet you won't get it done by monday regardless if something comes up or not.

Good luck Allen, I am glad your kit arrived safety. Just take your time, dont set any schedules, and take all the time needed, as some parts of the install are very painfully slow.

Default Tear Down complete...

Well the tear down is complete... (Several hours ago.)

I had a team of 4 working in it for a good part of the day.

Problems thus far...

1) Fuel Pump assembly has changed... The 2005 uses an even smaller fuel pump. *I ca only assume* The new one WILL NOT fit back into the stock fuel housing. Pictures to follow...

The new fuel pump is about 1/4" longer then the old. AND the upper stem is longer... Net effect, no go. Also the new fuel pump had to have some parts shaved as well. Still no Worky!!! So that killed about 2 extra man hours. (But I had 4 of them working.)

2) I can't get the spark plugs I want until Monday.

The turbo pre-assembly is complete, the manifolds are going on now. I'm going to have to get some help with this fuel pump issue. New feul pump, or a 2004 fuel housing. I think they changed the specs any ideas?

I also borrowed some air tools... Oh yeah, that has helped a lot.

I won't be driveable until I figure out this fuel pump... fuel pump.

I'll be dreaming about fuel pumps tonight.

Looks that way! Just a dremmel... You have no idea how long we spent screwing with that thing!!!

Oh well!!!

Anybody know how hard it is to change the plugs after the intake is back on??? I found a 24 hour auto supply store, so NOTHING WILL STOP ME!!!!

Its 9:30pm now, and we're heading there... The manifolds are ON, all we need is the ultra copper, I had to buy a short wrench for the manifold...

A few lights to work into the night...

I got a full drill bit set.

Now the seals...

We're looking @ about 52 man hours for the complete install... It may bleed into 60 hours.

But... Not bad for starting on a Friday night, I had enough man power.

Default Man I hate that fuel pump.

I cut down the base piece, and the book says you may need to cut the top too.

Yeah no joke!

You need some REALLY sharp equipment to cut that top rubber piece. I've cut the bottom to be about 1/3rd as thick as it used to be. I've cut the top rubber "retainer" to be about 1/2 as thick, and I still can't muscle that thing on.

I'm worried about removing too much on both ends of this deal. Maybe I should stop worring about it and just shave that rubber piece even thiner.

Cut, test, cut more, test, cut, test, dremmel bottom, test, cut top, test, shave test... Did that crap for ever. My brother is wrenching away on the install. We're at the point of installing the turbos...

Does anyone have a good picture of the LHS turbo water line? If not, no biggy, that is the next part going in, so... We'll have a picture soon enough. We've taken over 60 more pictures, but havent taken the time to post them.

@ this point I'm tempted to start really complianing about this fuel pump issue. I've done too much trimming to go back to stock, and my only choice is to just keep cutting. The cutting tool I use 'shaves' it pretty well, but there are tons of tiney little shavings. So I don't want that crap floating around in my tank, or clogging up my fuel filter.

I just think it is a raw deal... Thus far everything else has been so straight forward. This one part is consuming too much time, requiring a lot of attention, and is stressing me out. Not only that, because you have to hack the crap out of your stock fuel area, as I've mentioned, I just can't give up. It's forward or forward.

They REALLY NEED a fuel pump that doesn't require this amount of work and stress. Everything else is cake... (Thus far)

Installing the fuel pump in my 03 was a b!tch too. I had to dremel the cr@p out of the cap, but it eventually went in and works like a charm.

Good luck with the rest of your install.
