Default Installed 3.12 Pulley!!

I finally took the 350 miles trip to CP Racing in Charlotte this weekend to have the 3.12 pulley installed and a retune done. Overall, I am happy with the results. Prior to my going, I had a tune of 305 RWHP and 278 RWTQ. I was also ONLY seeing about 5.5-6.0 psi of boost. This setup was tuned at Z1 Motorsports in ATL on their Dynojet dyno.

The results:

The first run after the pulley install with no tuning was 334.1 RWHP and ~285 RWTQ.

Thanks to the guys at CP Racing, they got me up to 367RWHP and 305RWTQ on their Dyno Dynamics dyno. This time, I saw boost in the 7-9 psi range. I am not really a good judge of increases in power so I cant really say for sure how much stronger/faster it feels. I do know that it did feel a little faster! As far as I am concerned, the test in my eyes of gains is at the drag strip. If I see a drop in my 1/4 mile times, I am happy.

I can post up copies of my dyno sheets if anyone is interested in seeing them.

Maybe this will help answer some of the questions that several guys had about going with the 3.12 pulley.

Zach

Stop being a tease, and post those CP-Dyno's - I know your "Driving along - minding my own business - then punch it to see what it can do" experiences would be interesting to the member's of this board.

Cheers Amy -

No, not really. I dont really like that my HP and TQ are at 1.5 million RPMs!!! I would much rather have a ST and have the same HP and TQ at half the RPMS!

Here are my dyno sheets from this weekend and from Z1. The one from Z1 was from the final tune I got from them a few months back. I was told by CP Racing that the AFR curve is always less flat on a Dyno Dynamics dyno because it is not corrected for flatness where as the Dynojet AFR curve is corrected.

damn. you should email z1 a copy of the cp dyno so they can see with their own eyes the level of their incompetence.

so you don't like the linear nature of the gains? i thought linear was a good thing.

not to knock z1, but when I just installed a vortech on my buddies G35c, we first had to remove the underdrive pulley they installed. We tried a breaker bar, the breaker bar on the floor and turning over the engine and my impact wrench to break the pulley bolt free. I don't know what they used to tighten it, but it finally took a semi-truck tire changing company to come out. He started with his normal impact wrench, then tried an 800lb impact wrench and then finally, after about 5 minutes of banging on it with his 1400ft.lb. impact wrench, we finally got the bolt off!

I've had to fix several things on my friend's cars that they have installed.

i had the bolt on the *** belt pulley come completely off while driving, luckily it fell in the engine bay and i found it about 3 months later, bolt was stripped completely off, it was held on by glue, i had boost surges from the bypass valve, my aux fuel pump came disconnected, and they had WAY too much timing pulled. tried FOREVER to contact them to get these issues fixed, they never would return my call (jon) and was told by Lorca to NEVER call his cell number again, and that he only gave me his number for when he brought me my car because they took an extra week to install the vortech, supposed to take 2 days. anyway, i won't go into ALL of it but i was very upset with z1motorsports as well. -1 in my book. not starting a z1bashing thread or anything just thought i'd chime in with my problems with them as well. CPracing all the way.

Well, the Z1 tune was with the 3.33 pulley while the CP Racing tune was with the 3.12 pulley. I dont really want to start a lot of **** with Z1.

I have been in the same boat about fixing their screw ups. I had them install my headers last Dec and after I left their shop, I had a horrible clunking sound coming from underneath the car. I had them look at it and they said they fixed it. BS, they didnt even do anything. So I ended up having my local mech. fix it for near nothing. They also had absolutely no clue as to why I was losing boost, or ONLY running 5.5-6.0 psi of boost with the stock pulley. Also, when they did my headers, they also dynoed and my numbers were terribly low for what I had done and they could not understand why nor did they know what to do or say about them. I think they are very incompetent.

I agree about CP Racing!! Nice people and very responsive to my ton of questions! Ralph(I think that was the tuners name) did several pulls because the AFR kept cahnging from 1 run to the next and he kept tweaking it after each run. He was very meticulous to ensure that the AFRs were consistent or close to consistent from 1 run to the next. I highly recommend them to anyone.

Yeah, I talked with his wife a good bit too! They were both really nice. I am thinking I might take my car to her for a custom clear bra application after I repaint it next year.

It was about 5-5.5 hours from my house. From ATL, its probably 4 hours or so. You would go straight up 85N to Charlotte and then its about 6 miles off 85. It is not a bad drive at all.
