Check with Gurgen. I believe he was looking into this at one point and he's a very knowledgable source of information.

I have done a lot of research into this. It'd not as hard as it sounds, on paper (and then some) at least.

The large ($$) pieces are the tranny, clutch, front drive shaft, rear diff (kind of optional i guess), and the engine control harness (EGI harness), ECU. New retail prices (approx): ~$2000, xxx, $600, $600, $550, $650. I can get about 30-35% off these prices at the dealer. If you ask junk yards, they will say that they will provide everything that you need for $2800.

The probelm is that no one is actually nuts enough to do it... I am defintiely looking into it, but i'ts becoem more of a long term goal...

Long term goal indeed. Possibly in 2-3 Years when we can get junk Z's for $4K..

I'm really starting to look into this more too.

Every time I look at the underside on a lift, it appears SO EASY.

The shift linkage already pops into the interior through a large 4" X 2" hole..

I don't care where I mount the master cylinder and other accessories... do they need to go somewhere specific? i have no interior... and i was eventually going to add a fuel cell (even though the g35 sedan has its fuel tank in-between axles, and most race-leagues do not dictate changing to a fuel cell), and even dry sump one day if i win the lottery.

While SGP racing's auto build-up is great from what I've heard, it is still an auto. Even with paddle or button up/down shifts (it has to be possible).. it would still be boring.

I however would like to install the conversion with a tilton or ap racing pedal box. Its not the parts that are a lot... but the conversion/labor...

well.... it's not he mechanical part of the project that's hard, it's the electronics in my opinion. I guarantee you can make the mechanics fit, but the electronics are a bit harder., but i a POSITIIVE it's veyr doable.

Just no time....

hell, i am looking at going the opposite direction. i am hoping to hit 600-650 rwhp very soon and am having trouble finding a clutch that will hold the power and not be a pita to drive. sounds to me like the auto might be a better choice for those power levels and beyond. i havn't completely decided on the swap, but the only clutches i am finding that will hold that power and more are $2500 for just the clutch. maybe a swap could happen with someone. lol.

Did you raise your rev limiter with the TS L-spec flash? If and when SGP starts the VB upgrades, that should help also. $1200 seems little high though, not including install.

I AGREE 1,200 is too high! I think it should be on the 900.00 range not 1,200.

i looked into doing this to but found out that it would be cheaper just to trade the Z in and get a 6mt.

I agree, I will continue to wait for a good VB upgrade.

how about converting to a T-56 or TKO? I actually emailed Tremec about converting my existing 6MT to a T-56, and they referred me to www.keislerauto.com. I didn't pursue it, but given the fragility that the Z's tranny has shown, I will continue to consider it. I've already had one trans replaced (under warranty), and if I ever complete my APS ST install, the next one won't be a warranty item. I'll definately pursue it further. Ideally, I'd be able to get a paddle shift Xtrax, but that's probably $20K for the unit - never mind the labor to make it work... But how cool would that be

Wouldn't it be cheaper and less complicated to get a built tranny from SGP ?

that's what I'll be doing later on.
