Help Finding Tach Wire/Shift Light
Sup guys im going to be installing a raptor shift light soon, I was doing research to see if I can find the tach wire to our car.
The shift light has 3 wires
1 is positive
2 is negative
3 tach wire
Does anyone know where this wire is located, I have anywhere from in the ecm to behind the dash but I need to be able to pin point this cable.
Thanks
PS: If you have a picture etc. of where I can find this wire let me know as well

You can find a tach signal in a variety of locations.
Crankshaft position signal
Camshaft position signal
Fuel injector output
Ignition coil output
I would go with the crank angle sensor, if it were up to me.
According to my 04 Z service manual the crank angle sensor is pin 13 on the ECU, a white/blue wire.

I'm not sure how many pulses per revolution it is, one of these days I'll scope it again and find out.

It should work. The crank angle sensor is the most accurate representation of engine RPM in the car. Ignition and fuel injector signals can vary a little, based on timing (probably not noticable, but still).
I believe the crank angle is a 6 pulse per revolution signal, which your shift light should be able to 'read.' But, I may be wrong on this, as I still need to double check it with my o'scope.

Hi, im going to be ordering the same raptor shift light soon too. And wanted to know the same info about the tach signal wire.
350zOnJuice, did you get your shift light installed? Let me know how it works and what wire you tapped into for the signal.
Thanks

ok, been looking at the 2004 service manual. the coil pack signal wire volt range is 0.1-0.4V when engine is running. The Raptor shift light volt input for tach is 5-12volt.
The crankshaft position sensot is 1.4V
This is Per the service manual

Could you get something like the Greddy RPM signal converter and wire that into the 6 ignition wires at the ecu, then wire the brown rpm signal wire from the convertor to the shiftlight?
