Does anyone know what I should do inregards to breaking in the engine? I have a SGP built short block, Greddy TT, return fuel system, fuel pump, boost, EGT, and Wideband gauges along with the Ultimate Emanage and Profec EO-1. I have been told different things, I was going to take it on a long road trip, but then someone told me I needed to do everyday driving to take it through the gears continually? Any input, others have told me there should be no break in period????
I would wait for others responses, Sharif or SGP could probably tell you, but I do know that you are not suppose to keep it at a sustained rpm or load while breaking in an engine. It's not so much running through the gears as much as it is the rpm's and different load levels. I have heard to start for a certain number of miles to a low rpm and load and slowly build rpm's and load from their until you are full throttle. As far as mileage for intervals of different rpm and load levels, I will leave up to other who are a little more knowledgable to tell you.
There is some controversy over it . Old school was to do in town driving and take it easy for the first 1000 to 1500 miles . But ive read several articals on it . One said to do some thing like ....1/4 throttle runs to redline....3 times...let it cool for 30 minutes . DO 1/2 throttle runs to redline..3 times...cool 30 minutes . Do 3....3/4 throttle runs....cool.....then 3...full throttle runs .....cool
I have a SGP long block and Kyle told me to drive like grandma for 1000 miles. Stay out of boost and under 4000 rpms with city driving. I took a few days off from work and just drove around. It seemed liked forever, but if the builder of the motor told me to drive it like that, then I am going to listen to what he told me.
Called SGP and they said that there is really no break in period after the tune, but don't take it to redline. He also said that just not to set the cruise control on the freeway for a long time. Thanks for everyone's help.
There's no such thing as breaking in an engine. The only thing you need to do is tune it right away and, if you installed a new clutch, break in the disk according to the manufacturers specs. Sayings like "seating the rings" are all BS.

For us, the break in is 50 miles, just to ensure there are no leaks and things of that nature. After 50-60miles of mixed driving...its straight to the dyno for tuning. After the tune is done...go ahead and beat the crap out of it.

ya, typically just a cruise around to make sure everything is working properly. if something isn't put together right, it doesn't matter if you baby it for 10 miles or 1500 miles, it will let go when you stress it. just get the pain over with quickly and drive it hard, lol.
