Default APS ST 4th gear question

Hey guys.. well first off, the car is sick, but I have a concern. I haven't played very much until today so I could break in the ATS clutch and differential.

If I put my foot all the way down in a 4th gear high way run at about ... 3600 RPMs to redline.. at around 5,000 my slip light starts to come on. Sometimes blinking sometimes solid. The car doesn't feel squirrley (as much as that is possible for a turbo) and honestly I am unsure what it is trying to tell me. Is that my dif slipping? Clutch? Or traction? I thought traction would be indicated by my TCS light... Anyhow it doesn't happen in 3rd gear even if I am totally beating on it. Also some gears are building more boost then others. Ideas?

Hmmm thats strange that your building diff boost in diff gears.

As far as the slip light is concerned...I believe that is due to your tires loosing traction. I get it in 1st, 2nd, 3rd,and 4th when I floor it and the TCS is on. I don't floor it anymore unless the TCS is turned off. It seems like it would be bad for the car from the constant braking, but who knows.

Yeah I have switched it off any time I have been hitting the throttle cause I figured all that I don't want the systems fighting eachother. I'm just wondering why it is a 4th gear thing. If I hard shift in 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th it isn't even breaking. I dunno what the thing is doing I have fine traction first gear and second gear but I dunno if I am even getting boost in first. The blow off def isn't as prominent on the 1-2 shift as the 3-4... Shouldn't the pressure be the exact same? MY gauge reads 6.5 psi in some gears and about 9 in others. Weird.

What is the max psi in all your gears that you are reaching? Are you only noticing this problem after breaking the clutch in? Was the boost ever consistent in all gears after the install?

Since you are only "slipping" in 4th..I'm led to believe your car is making more power in that gear..which is really odd. Try pm'ing Peter or calling GRD and see what they have to say..

Did you change the flywheel..there were that had problems due to that but I'm not sure if you qualify..

I went to an ATS carbon clutch and flywheel so yeah it is a different set up.. Think that is the issue? I am going to try and get a hold of someone like GRD or JapTrix or what not. I'll play with it a little more today and see what is going on.

I'll log my boost on the way down to Ft Lauderdale tonight

i think its normal to build a little higher boost in higher gears, mine does it.

in first i can get about 8-9psi, but if i go about 30mph in say 3rd or 4th gear and punch it, ill build to about 11 psi and faster. ive been told my people thats normal. dont know why.

dont know anything about the slip light.

Mine holds very steady at 9.5 psi in all gears....but maybe its because my car was tuned...

That's the nature of turbos, it's easier to build boost in the higher gears because there is more load on the engine.

absolutely correct. I have given up on VDC/Traction control with FI...just disengage it for straight line blasts.

this might sound goofy, but just to double check. is your brake fluid resevior low? possibly the extended length of time to pull through 4th is causing the sensor to think the fluid is low by it sloshing around. worth a shot to check.

Zealous.. hey good call man... I'll check that out. Thanks for the rest of the chiming in guys. I have got to get a hold of this thing/. My traction is actually pretty great even in first gear. I'm hoping that just means the ATS diff is THAT well balanced, and this isn't an indication of some problem. Boost is normally around 9 PSI in running gears so technically all should be well. The car is a god damn rocket from 60-whatever. Drove her a bit more today and sometimes it seems like maybe the clutch is slipping? Revs go up a few hundered RP>S (Like from 4800-5200) and then drop back down.... and something "Catches". Might be the clutch but I thought a ATS clutch wouldn't have t hat sort of problem. Blehhh, I think I am just being a hypocondriac (SP) with my car. I freakin love this thing though

(Sorry bout any typos. Gotta few drinsk in me.)
