Default vortech with 3.12 belt issue

ok, i had the car tuned as some of you may know a few months ago, and started getting squeeking really bad in the mornings or when the car has sat for a while. i tightened the belt and it went away, after about 2 months it's back, so i tightened it again, almost all the way i think, and its still squeeking, there may be another inch on the pulley under the car, should i keep tightening it or could it be too tight ? just so you know it has gotten VERY cold over the past 2 weeks, plus im in clinton, mo right now. could the weather have made it to where i need to tightened it some more ? when its squeeking i can smell a rubber burning smell from the engine also. thanks guys.

I am assuming you are using the belt that came with the Vortech? I have played around with different belt, but have gone back to the Gator. If you can twist the belt with your fingers and see the bottom side it is too lose. Had to tighten it three times before the sqeeking quit. It was a pain in the azz until I cut a 2.5" dia hole in the plastic shield plate directly under the tension pulley bolt.

If its squeeling in the morning or when cold . It needs to be tightened . Check to see if it's riding on all the pulleys right . That it's not hanging over the edge on one of them . If it's the stock Vortech belt [ Goodyear ] that thing will stretch till you run out of adjustment

Its the skinny serp belt that squeels . The cog belt doesn't need to be tight at all

i was talking about the big belt that has to be changed when you install a 3.12 pulley, not the cog belt, started the car up this morning, it didn't squeek. so i guess it was the lose belt that is covered up by the engine bay cover, all is well now. thanks guys,

I used the 3.12 for many thousands of miles, but now i'm running the 2.87 @ 11lbs you will like the 3.12, like will like the 2.87 better.

Yeah these belts stretch a little after a few months after being on the car, Ray I believe you have the goodyear Gator belt if I am not mistaking, we keep them in stock along with the gates belts we have had a lot of luck with the goodyear belts.
