Thumbs down Blast! Boost Goblins attacked! Cracked Manifold

Baka!

while driving to Technosquare to get my oil cooler fitted, i noticed the car sounded kinda louder than normal.. i thought. .wait a second... the JIC ypipe when installed three weeks ago made the car freakishly quiet.. now its louder than heck.. something's up.. but since it was cold, i thought ok.. maybe its just denser air now so i thought nothing of it. and went on driving...

when i goto to TS and was almost finished with the oil cooler setup, Richey told me to start the car and back out.. then he heard a blurb blurb blurb.. "Hey.. do you have an exhaust leak?" he asked? he immediately called over Howard and they took a look under the hood.. it was late around 745ish and we couldnt get the car to the lift, so he just did a quick top visual, and Howard thinks my exhaust manifold is slightly cracked... its the passengerside / right side turbo.

i have the 2nd ever PE kit that was sent over here to the US with the SS/tig welded manifolds, not the newer Cast ones they're offering now.. so i guess the boost goblins decided to come munching myway Richey was like "wow.. you lasted this long. i'm surprised"... Tadashi said the same thing.. well. the only thing that sucks is that i have two track events one this month and the other in dec... i think i'll just stick it out and go with the cracked manifold until i build the motor.. since everything has to come off, but i didnt expect to spend the extra $$ to buy new cast manifolds.. oh well.. i'm going to try to get it up on a lift soon to see whats the severity of the leak... damn.. just thought i'd rant... i gotta see what PE will do...

boooooo...

Maybe you could just remove that one manifold and weld it up. That shouldn't be too bad

There's a difference between your downpipe having a leak and the manifold having a leak. That is, one being pre-turbine and one being post. Have you noticed a significant loss of power?

There's a guy in the club down here that races with the PETT, and what he ended up doing is taking the manifolds out and reinforcing the welded joints somehow. He hasn't had a problem with them since...

Good luck getting it fixed.

I don't race or drift like Cheston, so I am hoping that the SS manifold issue doesn't come home here. I also installed the engine dampner to minimize engine movement as preventative medicine.

So far so good.

Sorry Cheston.

Hope you can get a good price if you go cast, they were very discouraging about discounts when I spoke to them in may.

perhaps the engine dampener would be a decent investment... argg.

i even had all the weld reinforced prior to my original install too.. i guess its just a matter of heat expansion and the very limited space down in there...

yea. i have another drift event next saturday... i doubt i'll have time to do a quick fix.. i need to get it on the lift during the day to do a visual check out..
