Default 350Z Vortech Supercharger wiring issues...

Having installed a complete Vortech supercharger kit and wired in the control unit we are encountering problems with running the car. With the control box connected as per the instructions (wiring checked and re-checked three times) the car see's no signal from the Mass Air Flow sensor (reports around 0.03v on the Nissan Consult) and brings on the check-engine light - with the incoming and outgoing MAF wires to the control unit bridged (thus linking the standard MAF back into the car again) the car starts and runs fine with no issues and no fault codes - except however we will have no supercharger ignition control on load!

Is anything that we may have overlooked in the installation and wiring of the control box? We have re-checked the wiring a number of times and it has been verified to be correct as per the diagram supplied with the kit from Vortech. The car is a United Kingdom spec 350Z, are there any differences that we should be aware of between the US model and the UK model?

Many thanks in advance for any help or assistance in this matter.

NOTE: This post is being made by the garage installing the kit - and not the usual owner of this profile. (Though we are using this login with his permission).

You could have a bad SplitSec box. (It wouldn't be the first) Have you tried calling Vortech?

Not yet - time differences and all. A bad SplitSec box is the current theory the garage and myself are working on since the symptoms are exactly like the link below. We have the R4 and will be uploading the maps to check they are good - so please post a sample Fuel and Timing map for comparison (not for us to use, just to compare).

xxx=350z tech

But please guys don't assume the above IS the answer and keep posting.

Appreciate it.

If you have the R4 software I can send you a stock Vortech tune you can try to reflash the box I have seen a bad flash or two sense we have been installing these boxes. Also I have seen a few bad boxes you might want to give Vortech a call I am sure they would check the box out for you.

That is EXACTLY what I need we have the R4 so 'mdb' format would be perfect; I'll PM you my e-mail.

I am familiar with all the necessary settings which have been posted elsewhere, just don't have stock maps.

Wonderful thanks

Note it is for 350Z

We just went thru the same thing with limp mode while the split second box was connected. Bypassing the MAF wire for the SS with the factory ecu connection would allow the car to idle and drive. I think it was a 102 code for MAF input low voltage. After checking continuity on all the associated wires we sent the box back to Vortech twice and it now seems to be fine although I am not sure what exactly they did to it.

Thanks, the garage did get a code on the OBDII but I didn't note it down, but it was most likely this one too.

CPRacing are gonna send me the stock maps (I hope!) and we will download those to the car and take it from there.

Obviously, being in the UK, having to send the box back to Vortech is undesirable and twice would be unacceptable.

Thanks for your input

EDIT ---> Matt (CPR), just got your e-mail

Either a s/w problem Jon - in which case, will b resolved tomorrow or a h/w problem in which case back to Vortech; no worries either way.

When the shop pulled the maps - they contained all zeros Which would explain the 0102 code for sure.

But can't seem to download the base maps (as supplied by CPR - thanks again). Download looks to work but pulling the maps back and still all zeros

If the 'write' capability doesn't function, it probably never functioned, so the initial 'write' by Vortech (or SplitSec) may not have worked. Would've hoped their quality procedures would've picked this up though

Call to Vortech being placed. We'll get there

Not sure if shop have called SplitSec cos I wasn't there myself - were gonna call Vortech tech support.

Shop has both the R4 and URD guides. Created first Customer to upload what was in SS box to start with and saved that. Open Customer with the map supplied by CPR and downloaded that. When tried to upload - still zeros; all other realtime options were registering correctly so I am told. Could be a procedural issue but guides are fairly specific about ignition being on and motor not running etc etc. Plus symptoms are exactly same as MadBoost's post.

Obviously would prefer not to have to ship SS box back if possible but looks increasingly likely.

Do you have a contact name at SS?

Slightly OT: The SS box that ships with the Vortech kit does not support the additional inputs that the R4 software can use for datalogging. You may want to check about "upgrading" the box.

UPDATE - Car now fixed and running good.

Issues seem to be a combination of:
- bad map in SS box. Thanks to CPRacing for base map and Mark at SplitSec for helping out
- virus protection (possibly scripting) on shop's PC preventing upload/download. Shop identified this with help again from Mark.

Vortech were no help whatsoever - wanted to quote the 'warranty void line'

Dyno at 353rwhp and 305rwtq (Dyno Dynamics) straight out the box (well base map!!) on stock pulley, kinetix V4 and hi-flows and NISMO. Pretty happy with that with no specific tuning.
