Need help on engine rebuild
pm me your email address and i'll send u a spreadsheet that i made when i had my motor built...btw, i have done this twice, so i may be able to answer some questions for you..and i'll be happy to do so!
reg your posted questions:
go with .02 over, when the block is machined, have them use a torque plate, forgedinternals can rent one to you
make sure the pistons are strong!..i assume you are going twin turbo with this built motor?... arias extreme duty pistons are great, with a very stock-like sound-- again, speak with sharif at www.forgedinternals.com
the cam question..how much money do u want to spend? how much power do u want to make...while cams will help the motor run more effeciently and make more power at the same boost levels, i am making a ton of power on my motor..and i have stock cams/heads...
use nissan bearings..that is a whole other discussion... these little buggers are difficult to track down, the secret to getting them quickly is understanding the coding...
the bearings are sold in pairs...say you need bearing number 3, 3...but nobody carries the 3,3....what do you do??? well, see if they carry any combination of bearings that include a 3..it is the same 3!!! so you could spend a few bucks more, have a few leftover bearings that u dont need, by ordering say, two sets of 3,1's to get the 3's that you are searching for...i remember people waiting months for bearings because they were coming from distributers out of japan..usually totally uneccessary...
good luck, and tell us more about what you have already purchased and what you plan to put together

I talked to my shop today and they said they talked to some guys at SGP. Basically, the shop said I had nothing to worry about...that the wiseco pistons measured at .005 over and everything was within spec. He said their is no way that you can hear piston slap, basically SGP had to rebuild a short block that they did not do originally because the piston was hitting the head (and that is f**ked up).
I don't know what to believe anymore???
The shop said that they are looking into clevite bearings, king bearings, or that ACL now has a standard 350Z bearing. Are all these available?
I also want the UTEC, and they suggested waiting as long as possible because there is still some programming going on, but it is a great system & it will work great.
All I know is that my car has been there for a month, and i am being as patient as possible. I would rather wait and Have things done right. I have stessed my concerns over and over about the pistons and they are very confident the "slightly" (haha) over bore wisecos will be fine.
I have also decided to go with some cams while the engine is out. I guess JWT are the way to go?
Thanks again for everyone's help
