Default Supercharger opinion

Ok thats it I have my mind set on either SC or turbo... just cause of gains and sounds of both. Question is

I need something I can turn boost down to keep gas milage, and something that isnt too damaging to engine, cause i really could use the warranty to stay good for a while...

Also is it worth the 5-10k rather then taking that and putting it straight into mods such as cams, pullys, headers, exhaust, etc.... whatever else i can get for 5-10k

Also clutch/flywheel, will i need to upgrade since the considerable launches ill have to do etc?

go with a turbo/supercharger. quicker & less invasive

generally speaking:

supercharger= less expensive, louder, less power
turbocharger=more expensive,much quieter, more power

now, you could tune down a turbo & make it safer.. but power is very addicting.

mph wise, no big difference unlees you get on the boost alot(like most of us)
don't do it unless you're not concerned about gas milage

Seems like you already have gotten some good advice. I have the Stillen Stage III and I love the sound it makes and I am not all that worried about hurting the motor with this setup. As long as I keep my foot out of the gas, I get 25 to 26 mpg. You can change the boost by simply changing the pully, but don't expect to be able to tune on it much. You can also have a "higher boost pully" manufactured for you if you feel the need for more boost, but be aware of the extra heat it produces on this type of S/C. I am getting my 8.3lb pully from a friend I met here on my350Z.com.

Once you're F/I'd, you are pretty much kiss good-bye to your warranty, don't even worry about it.
As for as gas mileage goes, if you stay off boost, say cruising on freeway around 75-80 mph, turbo'd will give you similar gas mileage as you were N/A.
And you clutch will go sooner or later after the extra power/torque you gained. So an upgrade is needed.

I went with all bolt-ons except the cams and headers - even got the 3.9 350EVO gears - now I wish I would've spent the $ on FI - most likely turbo for the sound. Not to say the Z wasn't a different car to drive after the mods, but like someone said HP is addicting and now I need more. I can't see spending $1100 for cams + install $650 + headers $400-$600 = $2150 - $2350 when I can put that in a SC or turbo and get 70 - ??? more HP. If I add up all the $ I spent I could've went with a FI set up and been more satisfied, my suggestion would be to find some Z-G owners in your area with NA mods and FI and go for a ride in their cars before you spend your $. I wish I would've considered the $ and the performance in the end and saw the difference.

concuthatbu,
Once again, I am NOT into arguing! My car gets 25-26mpg on the hwy if I just cruise about 75-80mph. Sorry if you are offended that my car gets better gas mileage than yours.

+1

I was about to bite the bullet and order exhaust, final drive, headers, intake, plenum, rims/tires. I was looking at $5-6k installed, then I saw the Tnetics kit was only $4300... after install and tune it will be more than my previous plan but it really got my thinking about what I should save up for. Right now I have enough saved up for the kit + install but I want to have some extra saved incase I have to rebuild the motor if something breaks. And I spent money for an extended warranty so I should try to get the most out of that before I take the next step.

Thanks guys for all the information, yes the sound of a turbocharger is more addicting then anything else ive ever experienced and the whine of a sc is also very sexy while sitting WOT hitting the streets. I love working on cars and have been addicted since the age of about 11. I know alot about N/A so dont get me wrong my studying N/A vs SC/turbo is very extensive, but ive realized hearing personal reviews basically has always helped me decide the right choice, or at least is more convincing. Cause an ad always sounds good, but someones true word always sounds better.

Alright with all that information, couple more questions.

Id rather have a turbo (sound and hp gain) whats safest to last the 5-6 years im expected to keep this car, whats easiest maintenance (meaning dont have to take it to the tuners everytime to do every little thing) and whats best gains while getting high quality out of a *cheap* and i dont mean cheapest i mean most affordable to a 19yr old full time student.

Thanks in advance!!! Will

yea its funny he is calling out your 26mpg (which is what i get on the highway too) and not the guy claiming 32mpg on his turbo Z... Though I am sure he is going off the computer which completely wrong when you change your fuel injectors so I am sure his computer says 32mpg but he really gets much less than that.
