It sounds like the gear box has a lot of backlash. The backlash isn't overcome until the compressor has some load on it...

Even if its not a problem for reliability, it would be humiliating sitting at a stop light with that. Its time to double limo tint your windows or raise the idle or get Vortec involved.
It is very humiliating. I have an AT and I find myself putting it in "N" and reving above 1000 just to shut it up.

I have called Vortech and all they say is that its normal. I sent them a link to this thread and hope that makes them do something. A $4500 product should come with better support.

And if something is wrong with the unit and they send me a replacment part, do I have to pay for the labor to fix their defective product?? Labor ain't cheap but something needs to be done.

Everyone says ratle is normal. Thats why I posted this to see if this is really normal b/c as a car enthusiast...this blower sucks. Stoplights and the other thousand times I idle is embarrassing. I'm sick of telling my friends...yes...I paid 7K for this **** and that rocks in a blender sound "is normal".

I don't think Neff's rattles...at least not this notable.

I'm sorry you feel this way especially after spending so much money. I know you feel meng! I hope you can get it fixed and you are happy again with your kit.

I've been doing a lot of thinking about my car and what I should do. I love modding when the car runs great, but when the problems come, no matter how small the problems, it SUCKS! If I sell the car, I am going to buy a family car, and next year get me a 2007 Z06.....cams, headers, CAI, and tune will get you 505whp with no FI headaches.

I know how you feel Jorge...well...on a smaller scale obviously. But...you obviously have a desire for performance and you should do what makes you happy. If its a G or whatever. Nobody can argue a new Z06...those things rival the performance of the super exotics. You can always get the Blue Devil Z06 (factory supercharged and over $100,000).

If you can get past the whole Chevy thing, go for it. (Drove a camaro for 8 years and that thing was in the shop ALL the time...so...GM doesn't sit on my happy list).

But..hopefully someone who knows the Vortech well enough can tell me how normal or abnormal this thing is. I would love for this to be fixed without having to raise the idle to 1100 rpms. We'll see what CP Racing or Vortech says.

I used to have the same problem and it was the bearings inside the shaft that turns the cog belt and the front serpentine belt. Vortech sent me a whole new bracket. But I had to pay my shop to uninstall the bracket and reinstall. It was a pain and cost me over $280.00. That is one reason why I sold the Vortech kit.

****...I'd be thrilled if $280 bucks fixed this. Did the noise completely stop with the new bracket?

And by the way...thats exactly what it sounds like (bearings under the cog belt)

so, the sound totally goes away at 1000 rpms?

I'm going to keep my high idle when I get the vortech installed. Seems to fix all the vortech belt noise issues for everyone

You ought to bump her up to about 2500. That way...you just lightly touch the pedal and yer boosting already.

Yeah...at 1300, every rattle problem of the vortech shouldnt be an issue

Yes it went away. I had to pay for a new bracket, then when I sent them the old one back they refunded me what I paid. I just paid for the labor. Good Luck.

My blower was ratteling too and I sent it to Vortech to get it checked out and it turned out that my oil return line was crimped. The blower was fine. Now it runs a smooth as a babies azz. I do think the rattle your blower has is not right but it can be taken care of. Don't get discouraged. (I did) I have so much fun with my Z and the Vortech.

Backlash? You mean from the idle rpms varying? Like the rpms drop and the gears slap?

Jason, this sounds MUCH WORSE than it has in the past. IS this noise be getting progressively worse or is the video just poor quality? FLIP FLOP returns.
