We'll see if Vortech agrees. My pleadings on the phone have gone unanswered as this is "normal"...no matter how loud i tell them the sound is. Now that I have it on video...we'll see if they agree with everyone on this board.

My vortech has a slight rattle at about 600-700 rpms, but is completely gone at 1000 rpms. The rattle in the video is significantly louder than mine and it definately doesnt sound right. Get that checked out.

Here is Vortech's repsonse:

"On the belt that has the manual tensioner i noticed in one of your videos that belt hops up and down check to see if the bolt holding that pulley is tight.. When we ship out the kit the serpentine pulley on the motor side is not tighter down if the bold is loose still this could be causing the noise. If it is tight i would assume its coming from the head unit. In which case i would get it off and send it in to be looked at."

First...that bolt is tight.

Secondly, I don't want to start taking things off and having it sent in in hopes of them finding something wrong. (I think I read I even have to pay a diagnosis fee on their website and i assume they are gonna front the money to ship there and back).

How do I go about getting them to send a replacment piece to CP Race and have them switch it out and send the old one back. I'm willing to pay upfront but need the money returned no matter what (like a core). I don't want to pay for it and them tell me nothing is wrong with the old one and I'm SOL on the upfront money. I really dont want to have to pay for labor on multiple occassions. Especially since I live 600 miles from CP Race.(i hope I made some sort of sense)

Ok...so both Vortech and CP Race questioned the cog belt b/c in the second video...it looks as if its hoping up and down. I had to loosen that belt to shut up the much higher noise. So..without further ado...here is a video with the cog pulley nice and tight and its not hoping anymore but sounds even louder...but not intermitingly.

If you raise your idle, that "louder" sound will slightly go away. I had the same problem with mine until I had the idle raised. Unfortunately, it sounds like you'll have to spend the money with TS to have that done though.

I'm confused with one thing you mentioned though. You said you had to loosen the cog belt and tighten the cog pulley? I thought the cog pulley shouldn't be that tight?

You might try to have the idle raised at your dealer first. It might be cheaper and you don't have to send out your ecu.

That sounds like metal on metal... are you sure you don't have a crimped oil line? Start at your oil pan and follow the line with a flashlight all the way until it ends. Make sure nothing is kinked. Also, maybe check to see if your "oil squirter" is clogged. If it is, your blower won't be getting any oil. (which is what it sounds like to me from that last video).

For the record, my unit sounds MUCH more quiet than that. Something is definitely not right. Also, it seems as if your unit is getting LOUDER. I don't remember it being 'that bad' at Mike's house about 2 weeks ago.

I'll see you on Saturday and we can take a look at it. I'm trying to get TimRod1011 to show up to the big meet. Maybe Alan will chime in and see what he thinks too...

Can't. At least on the G35...anything after 10/03 cant be raised by dealer. Consult II will only tinker with the timing to temp, raise it. It eventually comes back down to normal.

I lossened the cog pulley with the slider bar until there was about an inch of play on the bottom of the actual belt. This makes it the quietest (the first 2 videos). Both CP and Vortech said the pulley looks loose b/c its hoping up and down. So...i tighened it so that it makes a smooth turn and showed them the sound is worse.

As soe posted said early on...I'm about ready to throw this Vortech crap off a cliff

If you haven't tried to adjust the belt yourself, you should do it. Slap a box end on one nut and an open end on the other. When you've got it loose with the engine idling, start with a very loose setting and slowly pull up on the box end wrench. When you get too tight the rattle gets worse and sounds like what you have in your video clip. Back off the tightness and you should find the sweet spot. Mine makes a rattle at about 600-650 that goes away between 700-800 RPM. My cog belt is so loose that it's easy to turn the idler pulley with the engine off.

Dude, if u don't want to pay the extra mula for the F-reflash then why not just use that money toward a torque converter?????? It doesnt hurt your car and at the same time helps u with your launch AND clears up the rattle problem.

Smile Vortech noise

HI
I don't have a SC yet but that sounds like absolute crap. Please let me know what Vortech does. If they do not correct the problem, I will buy another SC or TT.
How do you like the SC when it is not making that awful racket. Do you get good pick up off the line? I just do street drivng but was more interested in the Vette or shelby, but the Z with SC seemed better and cheaper and available. Do you notice a bit beter pick up or is it like "WOW" adn you need a new pair or shorts after you floor it? Any idea aobut how your 0-60 or 1/4 mile changed.
Something seems seriously messed up with the belt. It looks to be ossilating and I don't see how that can be right.
Dan

pharm...i'd rather spend the money fixing the underlying problem as opposed to hiding it with the idle raised. If they can't fix it...I'll take the blower off and drive in peace again.

zmandan....the blower works great but, like all centrifugal blowers, you don't feel it when yo upunch it. It takes a little bit to spool up and you really dont feel the boost until about 3500 rpms. You can get a torque converter to help launches...but I wouldn't advise getting the Vortech if you are looking for the quick launches from dead stops. Now...if you are rolling and you downshift...that is where the Vortech shines.
