Default Boost and the colder temperatures

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this, I have the APS TT with the 91 octane map supposedly tuned to 8.5 psi. I expected the boost to raise with test pipes, plenum, and my nismo exhaust plus the colder temperatures but it hit 12.5psi this morning!

This is the other frustration with the APS kit and the lack of certified tuners, so now I'll probably have to get a dyno done and send everything up to GRD because I know the engine wont last too long at this rate. I brought up the issue of boost creep a while back and Peter assured that this would not be a problem with the APS kit.

Tonio,

You are in a very scary position. I am not sure what injectors you are running but the vehicles I have seen come through the shop, would not deal with almost 13 psi unless you ran rediculously high base fuel pressures. Not to mention your MAF is definitely maxxed out so you don't have the ability to account for additional increase of Air that comes along with 13 psi or the higher air density. It is very likely for your car to lean out with the conditions you are facing. At a minimal you need to run a boost controller with some type of Closed Loop Boost Control scheme that actively seeks your 8.5 psi target regardless of temp.

You should also look into a knock indicator device as well. This could be an item that helps you keep an eye on your cars knock events.

Thanks,

Jermaine~

Holy crap I've seen this problem before on an A4. His turbo blew! So now he runs a 1.8 no t. Be careful! and go to a dyno soon. DOn't run hard till you get it checked out.

Yeah a dyno is the next move, I wont even post what EGT's and a/f ratio's I saw this morning but lets just say its not good at all. Everyone was complaining about the actuators on the APS kit but mine seems to have no problem, right now if I push it in first and second I'll see 10.5 psi at the very least, I'm afraid to hit boost in 3rd, 4th, and so on.

Mine spikes to like 10.5 when I stomp on it in 4th. I have a boost limiter in my controler. Its set so that if the boost goes over 9.5psi, it slams it down to under 9.5 within a split second. It seems to do it ok.

The unichip doesn't seem to control the boost like it should and some of the tuners can chime in and explain this.

I got my dyno tonight, A/F is in the 13's @ 6500 rpms so the car is parked and the unichip will be shipped off to Tuan Monday.

Anyone else running some sort of boost controller to help prevent this?

So with these colder temps you really have to be watching that boost guage huh? Why not just shift earlier?

Does this mean I will need to retune for the colder weather?

Unless you are seeing much higher boost levels (whivch I doubt) at colder temp's I would say no...And if your A\F ratio is in the 11 range or less it will be safe..
