Any benifit to vented hood on a FI
vented hoods are a great idea for high performance cars.
when i am sitting at a stoplight i can see the heat radiating out of my vents. it probably hardly helps at all, but every little bit counts. My main reasons for getting a vented hood was weight (yes its still significantly lighter then my stock one) and for airflow. i do a lot of high speed racing around and by venting some of the engine bay air pressure out the top it will reduce pressure under the car.
my veilside v2 hood also gave me almost an inch of clearance in the plenum area which will allow a little bit more airflow around there

Has anyone made a similar holeon the passenger side to the one on the drivers side.
I think this would help alot.
Anyone???????

Anyone now about this ????????????

Any other high quality hoods I should be looking at?

they have it at performancenissanparts.com
I've got the veilside v2 hood as well. It's 100% difference in underhood temps with the turbo mounted up there. Between it and the heat wrap/coated headers, there is no perceivable ambient heat increase under the hood.
Good info. I figured that this would be cheaper and easier to do than replacing the radiator to get extra cooling on the engine. Since my IC pretty makes it impossible to fit a larger radiator.
I also did it to releave some of the air from under the hood to lower the pressure on the bottom of the car. Should help the car stick to the road at speed.

Gonna sound pretty noobish... but I know vented hoods on NA can be rough for waterlocking the engine...
in our Turbo'd cars... do we have to worry about the water being sucked in during heavy rain and killing our cars?

Totally submerging your intake in water is never a good idea, regardless of weather you're NA or FI...

The paint match totally depends on who does your work.
I have the Seibon VT, it does decrease oil temps by a couple of degrees, not a big deal, but it also lowers the engine bay temps, by what amount, I don't know, but you can see the heat escaping.

any picts of your Aerocatch installed yet ?
old thread, but since it was raised, I haven't noticed any temp decrease on any of my gauges - oil temp, coolant temp (both stock and aftermarket), EGT, even the outside temp gauge
actually it miiiight have lowered oil temps by like i dunno 1-2 degrees F or something, but I have noticed the engine bay itself isn't as hot when you pop the hood
for reference, I have a vortech - which doesn't get as hot as turbos

The block itself doesn't have enough surface area to disipate heat so fast as over heat the space under the hood. Ive only noticed two hoods which would make a large impact on the temperature under the hood (which eventually mean lower intake temps). Those are the do luck hood and its replicas (via the cowl effect) and the TS hood via the bernouli effect. The TS hood would probably be far more effective because of the placement of the vent.
I have the Seibon VT hood and I haven't noticed any decrease in temps. I bought it mainly for cooling the engine bay after parking the car. You can feel the waves of heat coming out of the vents. With the stock hood, I'd always pop it open after parking the car at home but you can't do that when parking elsewhere.
