Are 550's too big for use with a stock motor and looking for low 400's rwhp (410-430whp would be cool)?

440s are not maxed out at 400whp. I know a guy putting 460 down with them and room to spare.

They will definatley be running at 100% duty cycle, with much higher than normal fuel pressures.

Who is this person you speak of? McDuck?

So Sharif (or anyone else) is there a reason to not go with 550cc injectors? Are they too big for my application (TN ST looking to get low 400whp with UTEC and fuel return)???

Briguymax... I don't think he's running higher than normal fuel pressure but I don't know for sure the specifics of what APS does. He doesn't have an FMU so he's not getting higher FP in that way. He's just running whatever APS provides (actually he's got Deatschwerks 440s now, same size).

He is running 58psi of static fuel pressure, and with boost, its close to 68psi through the injectors....this is higher than normal.

Just because something has been, doesnt mean its safe (quote from Phunk).

OK cool I didn't know that the APS kit raises the FP. I thought it stayed at 3.5bar just like a stock VQ35.

Yeah, APS uses a rising rate FPR located at the tank, so fuel pressure will rise 1:1 with boost.

Typically on 6cyl cars, the number prior to the cc's(as in 440cc), determines how much you can make at the wheels. With my PE kit installed, I was able to make 390rwhp at 93% duty cylce.

But is it possible to use injectors that are too big?

For instance if I go with 550's but tune to somewhere in the low 400's at the wheels am I using too large of an injector and is that a problem? Is it more difficult to tune or anything?

The disadvantage of going with larger injectors than you need is bad idle.. and possibly starting issues.. because it's more difficult to meter out small quantities of fuel from a larger injector..

I was the guy (35ounces is refering to) who was maxing out his 440cc injectors at ~400WHP.. My base fuel pressure is around 46psi... never looked to see what it was while boosting.. I like that setting because the car starts and runs like a street car should.. when I had the base pressure up around 52-56psi, I had annoying warm start issues..

I am using the UTEC. Isn't the idle tune left alone with the UTEC? How are bigger injectors handled as far as idle goes (any size for that matter)?

The UTEC will scale the injectors wile at idle in the 0% column of the fuel map..

It is! The UTEC takes over at the 10% load column, unless you change the default settings. Scaling is handled via MAF offset.
