Default O crap.. possible boost leak?

Car's been running strong for the whole week. Been enjoying the TN kit on my G35...

Today I was in Beantown and thought it'd be fun to get a little kick.. Hit boost WOT... All of a sudden I get this hesitation.. So I got off the gas and stayed alert.. (forgot to turn off VDC). Then I look down at my gauge cluster.. and I realized my car stalled...

So I quickly started her back up.. and got back to driving.. carefully.. after checking my zeitronix, I wanted to test everything out.. so I tried to boost.. Right when I start hearing the car build boost.. it feels like it's getting stuck at 3400 rpm.. Spools half way and I get some vibrations.. Then the car stalls..

I obviously made my way home running below boost levels and drove very conservatively.

I'm kind of freaked.. I'm hoping it's just a boost leak and the MAF freaked out..

I called up the shop and told em I'll drop the car off overnight and see if they can take a look at it tomorrow.. On the way to the shop, my "Service Engine Soon" Light came on.. So I was even more freaked..

Anyone know what's going on with the car? Is it just a boost leak? I'm hoping it's that simple!! wish me luck.

You could have blown a coupler off your intake piping..

I blew a coupler off mine last summer. Trust me, you'll definitely hear it. My car didn't stall, though. Of course, I caught it and it was fixed after the first 2 minutes of driving.

Were you making any boost before it died? If not, then I'd say its a major leak somewhere...

Matt the SES is pretty common. Mine used to come on quite often although it has not come on since the cooler weather. Did you read the code?
How was your a/f just before you stalled?

Like you said probably a leak. DSG has some cool pumps that fit up to the piping for finding air leaks.

I think it sounds like you maxed out your maf voltage and your ECU threw you into safe mode.

do you have a boost gauge? Can you see what type of vacuum you are holding? If you aren't holding somewhere in the neighborhood of 18-22, then I would say it is a boost leak. Otherwise, you are definitely maxing your maf and going into safe mode (which I think is the case)

Edit:
Also, if you blew a coupler, your car would be having a hard time keeping a steady idle. How is the car idling?

I asked the same thing last night on AIM and I don't remember his response... as far as safe mode, I have yet to experience this on my Z so 'fraid I can't help there...

I didn't have the SES light on before driving about 120 miles.. before I had the boost leak (yes it was a leak.. right on top.. main intercooler pipe). I replaced all the clamps with different clamps to make it easier to check out.

I drove another 100 miles yesterday.. (loving it) SES is on, car is still pulling hard. I wonder if I soiled my plugs... Running rich and all.

I have a 2nd set of +1 colder NGK's that I might throw in there.. eventually.

Called it j/k... glad you got it figured out. Doubtfull you fouled the plugs. Most likely an 0300 code. Pretty common with highly modded Z/Gs..

Matt,
Did DSG check the code? I'm guessing you have a code reader. Check if its the 0300 code. If so don't worry about it. The SES will go out by itself too.
But I would check to be sure.

i have a similar problem. if i'm on the freeway and down shift to third or fourth; the car would just cut out. and after that i can not go over 2500rpm. no SES light.
i pull over and disconnect the battery and it then it drives normal again. this happened 3 times. is this the same thing as the MAF maxing out?

i can pull hard on the dyno or race from a standing start no problem. just on the freeway going like 50mph or so. oh this happens with the tcs on(enthus model)
