Default To build or not to build.

With the FI kits getting better and tunners getting better is there really any reason for a build? Lots of guys now are running 500 on a stock block with lots of miles adding up. Is it really worth the 50 extra hp? Seems like guys with built blocks are going through about just as many problems. This is something Ive been kicking around for a while now. Whats your thoughts?

dude i dont know what to tell you.. depends on your goals or where you want to go with it.. i say run it till it breaks then build.. honestly unless you want to push it further cause once you build you will want the other things to go with it and it adds up real ****in quick.. trust me.. if i could do it all over again .. i dont know.. cause i havnt got a chance to let loose on my car yet so ill get back to you

if you can get by on the stock engine for now, then by ALL MEANS do it.

You are getting into a world of hurt and a world of $$$ doing full builds. There is a domino effect that can literally ruin your life. I would wait it out until there are some better results and more consistency in the built engine projects.

Right now I just dont know if I really think its worth it. Its so much trouble for something you cannot fully utilize for now.

Stick with the stock block. I really don't think spending ~$5k for an additional 100whp is worth it. I'll be shooting for ~440whp with my 06 which is plenty for the street.

I say dont build, I right now am realizing how much more money you spend when you build your engine, because the problem is since the motor can handle it you no longer limit yourself and end up getting cams, better engine managment, better fuel system ( CJM Twin pumps ) and stuff like that because you want to take advantage of the new motor. The stock block limits you which i think is a good thing and you will save 10grand

Just my .02 cents

Built motors (done right) are IMO, much more safe and offer much more reliability over a stock motor. After all, it is "built" with much stronger internal parts.
IMO, it is better to build now, than wish you had later. Cutting cornors on a turbo car is never a good idea. I also would rather have a stronger motor built right, for a turbo set-up, than one not. Remember, although they do work well with FI, these high compression all aluminum motors where never desighned (by Nissan) to have a turbo system on them, like some of its predecessors.

I'd say don't build it. It will depend where you want to go. Right now I have 14k on my kit with no problems, 44k total mileage. I would wait till it's necessary to build.
