Boost Stress Question TT vs ST
The bottom line is that with Greddy's stock boost the G is a fast car, the power comes on hard and will put you in the back of your seat at 5.5 psi. That will usually get you about 350 to 365 at the wheels. Once you hit 8 to 9 you are on the edge of the limits with the stock rods (which do not like boost from day one). You have to keep in mind the effective compression ratio under those types of boost conditions are close to 16:1. It is hard on those weak little rods. If you are going for huge power you really are maxed at about 8.5 or 9 with an AMAZING tune and good luck. If you want to have one hell of a driving experience that is FAR less likely to cause serious problems over the life of your car, then 5.5 psi is a good safe number that will definately generate some serious power.
I'm confuse now, so running a TT with 5.5psi with 360whp is less stressful than some one with ST 8psi with 360whp?
I thought ST is less harmful on the engine?
boost is boost. there's no difference in boost, the differences come in where max power/torque hits. with a TT, boost hits lower, and harder. torque comes in lower in the rpm...which theoretically COULD be more stressful on the internals....however it's not like you're at INSTANT full boost on either setup, so the gradual increase to peak torque does increase the stress, but it's not an instantaneous factor of stress such as you'd see with a nitrous shot.
higher boost = more danger. the greddy at 5.5 psi is probably putting out the same cfm as the tnetics @ 8psi. therefore one could argue that the reliability is not in the kit, but in the application of the kit.
neither kit is inherently safer in power output. when they refer to the reliability of the kit they are likely referring to how complete the kit is. i.e. good tuning solution, injectors, good quality parts, etc...
