Default Vortech Supercharger

I just got off the phone with James at Vortech. They currently have a G35 coupe in house to be looked at for a supercharger kit. James started it currently is 50/50 chance right now. It deppends if they can fit it in or not. They will have a 350z in house in two weeks. He said to check back in about a month.

hmmm,..not too sure about Vortech,..but they do seem to make alot more HP out of their Supercharger kits,..I'd like to see what comes of it,..its gonna be the price of a Turbo Kit NO DOUBT! BUt I think a little safer!!

not expert on supercharger but....

can you run stock internals with Vortech Supercharger? how much boost does it usually have? I just checked their website, they have an app for S2000 with 108hp gain! is this with stock internals?

3yrs warranty and Carb certify will make this very attractive!

Most Superchargers are made to run w/ All stock internals and Bottom end,...then some offer boost Upgrade package(new fuel pump/pulleys,etc)but suggest that you upgrade bottom end,..!!
Now Vortech is a different kind of superchager w/ what they call and 'Aftercooler'--Vortech is making huge gains w/ theirs but are so expensive that most just buy a Turbo kit w/ INtercooler and injectors and are just as safe(MOST OF THE TIME?)

vortech is a centrifugal supercharger correct? vs the normal mf90 eaton based blower that most people use.

yep, centrifugal. Typically these make more top end power but dont have quite low end response as roots type. Centrifugal are typically external and are mounted infront of the engine, not integral to the intake manifold, like the stillen one

no question that Vortech makes top-end quality superchargers. Since they have already built nice ones for some of the V6s out there(Honda Accord V6, Acura NSX...). I do believe that if they came out with a supercharger for the Z, its gonna rock.

I think the max price of the kit would not go over $5,000. Summit racing sells the Civic Si vortech kit for $2,999. Not bad at all.


the S2000 108 hp was witth stock internals.

Our engine bay should have enough space for the Vortech Supercharger.. We can remove the factory airbox and probably mount the supercharger there.. It would fill the space very nicely!

Default I was told by a wise man who experienced it

That if you add an after market SC to your setup you are well advised to reinforce your bottom end for the long haul, which insn't cheap either!

a low boost setup would be fine on our cars in the long haul. the engine is pretty strong. if anything a blockguard at max and we should be okay on a 5-7psi setting.

the good thing is with a centrifugal blower is that we wouldn't have to worry about hood clearance therefore we wouldn't need to waste money on a hood.

I don't know what your background with Nissan is, but in the past, Nissan's bottom ends have been bulletproof.

I run a V1 blower and the stock VQ30 internals in my 98 Max will hold 13.5psi of non intercooled boost all day long with just a few degrees of ignition timing retard. I even saw 15psi the other morning when it was realy cold and the air was dense. I use a J&S Ultra Safeguard now that I am at "ludicrus" boost on stock internals. When I tuned the J&S in I discovered that ~10psi is where the detonation starts, I have it set up to pull ~1 degree of timing per lb of boost starting at 9psi. With this setting the knock retard function of the J&S rarely ever lights up the knock gauge and pulls any more timing. If I had a good Air to Water InterCooler it would require less ignition timing retard. I plan to add the AWIC eventually but I put safety first by getting the J&S unit. If you lucky VQ35 Z guys are going to boost up on stock internals I recomend looking into a J&S Ultra Safeguard, its allot cheeper than replacing head gaskets. As long as the AFR is tuned good and you can keep the detonation in check it will run all day. The knock sensor and ignition system on the VQ35 and VQ30 is identical so the Maxima Safeguard should work for all the VQ35 apps.

PS: I have a VQ35 short block and have turned over a rod, piston, rings, main bolt, head bolt to a reputable US based import shop who will in a few months have stronger units available to the public
