get rid of SC belt squeal?
Yes I can tighten the belt from up top . I dont have skinny arms either . I have since gotten a sleeve [ heat resistaint ] to put on my arm and I wear gloves also . So no more scratched up arms
Avoid the scratches and burns! Cut that 3" circular hole. Then a jack w/stand under the passenger side, 14mm to the TP nut, 12mm to the TP adjustment bolt, retighten the TP nut and you are done. If you have taken 10 minutes, you have taken too long.
yes booger and sungnam are correct. don't put belt dressing or talc powder on them. new belts will always stretch. you need to tighten them 2-3 times before they stop stretching and retain constant pressure. doesn't matter if it is the main 350Z belt, or the fan belt on a 75 vega! belt squeal is from the belt being loose, thats it.

Never thought to get some sort of arm protection, not a bad idea......
Acutally a great idea.

Any fine, talc based, powder works well to pull any moisture from the belts and help eliminate your squeal. Give that a try, its a cheap fix, but make sure you check the previously stated issues before you start sprinkling magic pixie dust in your engine bay.
It worked for me.

Goofy question but, has anyone heard of any type of belt for hi-performance use, that has like a kevlar or something of that nature, that has better longevity, less stretch?
Or even a place where a custom belts could be built?

haha, i might as well chime on here.....
I've had off and on problems with strt up belt squealing from my stillen. I replaced the belts enough, and just changed the pulley/tensioner to their newest aluminum pulley/bearing for the main 4-rib SC belt. NO MATTER how tight the belt is, it squeals. If i overtighten it, it squeals, if i have it just right, the same tension as stillen's cars, it squeals less, but squeals. If i have it a little loose, it squeals more again. I cannot help it, so i'm gonna take it in to them. It's a minor annoyance, the car runs great still.
This is the main 4-rib SC belt i am talking about...
Has n e one else with a stillen cured this problem? And if so, which belt on your was actually squaeling? the main SC belt, or a lower 6-rib serpentine>??

the only belt i have ever had squeal was the power st belt, but now i need a new tensioner its making a metallic noise.i used to oil it a little and it would go away for a week ot to but not anymore.hey tony what did it cost for the newer version of the tensioner.

I know nothing about Vortech SC's on 350z's, but I used to have a Jackson Racing Supercharger on my Civic. That thing would squeal at least twice a year. I got tired of adjusting the belts as part of the maintenance, so I sold it that thing. Just from my exp, even though it may not apply to the 350Z.
