Default Missing part in kit means more money

Before I begin let me say that I am very happy with my TN kit and the customer service I have received. I just need to vent......

When I had my kit installed they were missing the nitrile hose connector. This part is not on the 350z kit, only the G35 kit. It's the hose that goes from the turbo to the filter. My installer had only done Zs so he wasn't looking for the part and didn't notice it until he got to that step of the install. This was on Saturday, so TN was closed. My install had to be finished on Sunday because my car was being shipped on Monday.

The install was finished on time, without the nitrile hose and filter. TN shipped the missing part to me at my new destination. I'm finally settled in and ready to install the part when I realize it's step 60-something of almost 100! My car has been running great and I really don't want to take it "half-way" apart to install this part. I can definitely turn some wrenches but I'm a little apprehensive to take apart my new $10k toy. I'm guessing a shop is going to charge me around 4-5 hours of labor to do this so I'm looking at an additional $400-$500 for this stupid mistake.

I'll take sarcasm, sympathy, opinions, or flames. I just needed to vent.

Sorry for the length. Thanks.

Russ

Step 60 of 100 doesnt neccessarily mean u have to strip off 40 steps-- Relaxe, Familerize ur self with the complete installation, Then just decide what is the best way to get from point A to point Z. Where theres a will theres a way. Sometimes I just lay on the floor underneath a car and stare at the prob-Then sleep on it ( Not the car ) Generally the next morn what seemed like an imposibility becomes a quick fix.

Thanks for the advice. You're right, I don't have to do all of the other steps but it will require at least half of them.

Did you call Turbonectics and ask them if you really need that part and what could happen if you drive it without that part? Obviously since TN includes the part in the kit, that means that its probably neccessary. However, your installer installed the kit without that part without any problems, and your car runs great without it.

If Turbonetics says that you should not drive the car without the part, then I'd strongly suggest to take it somewhere and get it installed if you can't do it yourself. Its better to spend another $500 to get it right, then to drve it without it and then have to spend a lot more than $500 to get it fixed when something goes wrong.

It's a pretty important part. It connects the filter piping to the turbo.

I started ripping the car apart and now I'm stuck removing the turbo from the exhaust inlet piping. Time for a trip to Sears for some new tools.

I would see if turbonetics would cover the added labor, since it was their fault the part wasn't with the kit.

I have this part laying around in my garage. I bought a G35 kit for my Z.

edit, lol... I didn't read the part where turbonetics sent this to you. lol. ok, I have it anyway. I also have both FANS and fan control which you need for the intercooler on a G. Let me know.

Ok, I got everything out finally and now I have the missing part back in. The problem I'm having now is that it rubs on the tiny fitting on the turbo. I'm guessing this is for my boost gauge? If so, this isn't going to work. It's got the hose coming off of that at a 90 right now and I'm sure there will be a hole there soon.

Your Boost Gage will run off yr upper Plenum Vac line---Thats where I run them ( Correct me if Im wrong Y"all with this particular application) So do what u want with the fitting in the turbo. I am not totally familiar with the fitting ur working with as far as size etc. 1/8 inch Pipe ? 1/4 inch ? Can a nipple be put on it to get clearance ? Can a 90 degree be used to route it different ?------- If u like ----Book me a flight and we can figure it out

The cmpressor fitting feeds the wastegate source. When I helped install g35pm's kit it was a pain in the @ss to line up but its been fine so far.

The G and Z have a different compressor inlet setup due to the G not having the intake opening in the rad support. Heres some pics comparing.

Wow, that's a great pic of what I'm talking about!

Now I realize how screwed I am, LOL.

In the top pic, see the fitting on the turbo itself above the 2 t-bolt clamps? It's a brass-color with a 1/4"(maybe) OD hose running to the right.

Mine isn't there, it's about 80 degrees to the left right between the turbo and the nitrile hose connector (black thing between the filter pipe and the turbo).

WTF!

The install I helped with the fitting was right where you are describing. On the "front" side of the compressor outlet.

Hmmm....it's going to take some fabricating of a guard or something to fix that

Mine didn't have an issue with that. You could try cranking down the fitting a few turns.

You are correct sir. The fitting had about 1/4-3/8" of threads showing. For this kit every 1/2" counts, kinda like sex.
