Exclamation Found The Problem Bad Weld Tn

Whats up guys so I take off from my girls house around 1030pm tonight and as Im driving home verything is great the car sounds goob but then all of a sudden my car starts making a weird *** noise. As the rpms climb all I can hear is a raspy hissing noise that is pretty damn loud. I can no longer hear my turbo spool and it is almost as loud as my RSR what the hell. It only gets louder and louder as the rpms climb. It sounds like a loud raspy hissing noise. What can it be??? its freaking me out. As soon as I got home I lifted my car and checked everything but it all seems fine. What can it be?

Gilbert

uh, it sounds like you popped an IC pipe off. Have you uh, popped the hood and looked under there yourself or at any of the IC piping?

You just had a wastegate pipe installed, right? It sounds like you have a major leak on the exhaust or wastgate piping (if the turbo isn't spooling). Pop the hood or get the car up on jack stands and look for gaps in piping or carbon deposits at the joints.

I've had intercooler piping pop off on mine once and you can hear the turbo spooling, it will just be really loud.

Also, you might want to check on it yourself or contact someone directly on the issue before freaking out and posting here. I'm getting tired of seeing these "omg tn kit broke car" posts that are ALWAYS user or install error... Seriously, if you own an FI Z you should at least know basic troubleshooting and basic operation of a turbocharged vq...

Its either an exhaust leak or boost leak. Are you still building boost? If you are not seeing any boost at the manifold check your charge piping around the intercooler.

+1 on the piping. Did your car maintain speed or did it slow down on you? This same thing happened in my Eclipse a couple months ago. Ended up being the charge pipe on the hot side of the intercooler.

Hey Taurran I spent over 2hours last night looking for the problem before I posted on here. I dont think the kit broke my car and I believe it is an easy fix.

First thing I did was check all the piping for carbon deposits like you said. I found none whatsoever. I also checked the intercooler piping and its fine. I know my way around my car as I installed the kit myself including the fix pipe for the overboost. I only use the forum as a last resort so chill out a bit.

I am still convinced its an exhaust leak I just cant find it. I still hit full boost just that the raspy hissing noise is reall loud almost as loud as my exhaust.

The built motor is in my buddies garage, I was waiting for Reggie to get back to me on the T66 but I might just throw it on and push the 60-1 to te limit

There is DEFINTELY a leak somewhere...Double check the wastegate dump tube connections..

Break out a spray bottle with soapy water and you'll find it in no time.

Well, no need to chill out here as I'm completely calm...

I think anyone can agree that this forum has seen more of its share of folks who don't try to help themselves. Not saying you're one of them. But, it certainly would have helped if you would have included this info in the original post.

Now that we know you're hitting full boost like you should, try narrowing your search to post turbine/wastegate exhaust piping and the intercooler piping. The place where mine came loose was where the hot side intercooler pipe meets the compressor. Also, make sure you didn't blow out any o2 bungs, plugs, or crack any welds on your exhaust. You also might want to check the seals around the couplings on the intercooler and intake piping. That's really all I can guess that might be causing this.

Well I found the problem afer hours of looking. There was a bad weld on the overboost fix pipe. The only way I was able to see it was using a mirror, now I have to remove the turbo and for you that installed the kit yourself its going to be a *****!!!

Oh man that sucks!!! So TN sent you the overboost fix, you pulled the turbo out to install it, now you have to do it again? Ouch....glad you figured it out though.
