Default Man alot of motors went these last two months..

seriously guys whats the deal.. lol

ne-ways i blew my built motor a few weeks ago and i had a few options..

1.) sell everything (i hate cars and turbos)

2.) sell the turbo kit and return to stock

3.) trade the turbo kit for bike(to ease my need for speed) keep my car stock

4.) throw a stock block back in the car for now(got a great deal) run boost at like 12 or 13 psi and send my old block off for the full treatment sleeves and all that!

as of right now im with option number 4 ive already invested a crapload might as well stick with it.. 3rd times the charm! this way if it goes again with the sleeved block ill have the stock block as a back up down the road to return to stock and throw in the towel.. im just not ready to give up yet..

here we go again.. seems theres gonna be alot of monsters running around this summer

Forget the VQ35, source a VQ30DETT and stuff it in there. Now thats a recipe for a some serious reliable numbers.

WTF why not be happy with 8-9psi on stock block. Much better chances of surving than at 12-13psi. As boost goes up, reliability goes down my friend, dont push the stock block so much or you'll be in the same position....good luck.

i think i would just go the nine yards and get the best built block their is no point in going reverse with the old 300zx motor plus things will get better and better as time passes by

I went through this same thought process when I blew my FIRST motor...I decided to tear it down and build it back up stronger...then I broke 3 pistons in my second motor...so I tore it down and built it back up stronger...now I'm running 16.5psi and loving it and the setup has been pretty much trouble free...but, I'm preparing for my 4th motor (sleeved with 100mm arias extreme duty pistons)

Good choice paranormal!

But really damn man, three motors... I don't even want to imagine losing one haha.

+1.

Paranormal I feel for you buddy! You, Todd, Gurgen, and I have been on your same boat. I think Gurgen has a few on us though. Anyway I say rebuild it. I know how you feel, but I got my car back a few weeks ago and within 1 day of getting home the car was not running right. It was tuned in TX 50 degree wheather and with Florida's 90 degree temps the tune was off. Mark from SGP has been in Miami since Sunday installing the HKS FCON and he retuned my car this evening.

I made 513.6whp @16psi on a dyno dynamics SAE corrected with no dyno jet correction. It was 89 degrees and 42% humidity. The car was slipping bad on the rollers and we could not strap it down any more cause my 285/35/19's were rubbing really bad. It smelled like a tire factor every time we did a run. Dyno jet numbers would be around 580whp probably even more since I was slipping on the rollers. I am going to have the fendors rolled and hit a dynojet within a week or two. The car is fuking ridiculous! So smooth and the response is so fuking insane!

I too was trying to sell my car. Moral of the story.......I wouldn't sell it now if someone offered me a million dollars....well maybe for a million.

Good luck on what ever you decide.

not many...stick w/ the VQ...its well mated with the car anyway. The only weakpoint to the motor is really the rods, ecu and cams (on the 287s..) i think... i mean its a pretty resilant motor anyway. Since its made for NA, u dont need much boost to hit a lot of power

It was done, or started... Then from what I can tell during the wiring process (also something about changing shops cause the first shop was getting really busy and I guess the guy couldn't wait so switched shops) then the guy ran out of money and the project was given up on.

Some of the reason is probably due to the cooler wheather resulting in slightly higher boost and not being tuned for that boost level, I guess being in Florida we are lucky and don't get those extreme temperature differences.

Not sure if this question is directed to me or paranormal, we'll both share our stories, here's mine:
...I broke 3 ringlands back on my first built motor(this was almost a year ago), my best theory, arias miscalculated on their first batch of ORIGINAL design pistons with their recommended piston to wall clearances...I assume the pistons heated up and came in hard contact with the cylinder walls...

on the arias extreme duty pistons, they call for 4 thousands piston to wall clearance, i ran 6 thousands just to be safe...so far, running great! the built motors that we will be putting together we will run 5 thousands P to W to give the extra little cushion while still not going overboard and leaving too much room for excessive rocking...even with 6 thous, no audible signs of piston slap
