Calculator for how much timing to be pulled ?

when my car was tuned back in august i wasnt hitting as much boost as i am now thats it's colder outside, I dont think im pulling enough timing now. Im hearing what i THINK might be detonation but not 100% sure, i hear the sound start at around 5000 to 5500 rpm. starting at 5k rpm im hitting 6 lbs and the R4 B map says im pulling 0 degrees of timing. next is 5500 rpm and hitting 7 lbs of boost and pulling 1 degree of timing. then 6k rpm hitting 8 lbs of boost and pulling 2 degrees of timing. does this sound right ? should i up the number in these cells and do a run to see if the sound goes away ?

I think you better pull some timing . Some one that knows will chime in , but it doesnt seem like enough at that much boost on a stock motor . The SS box pulls 1.5 degree's from signal delay . So at 5500rpm and 7psi you have 2.5 degree's pulled . I would think you need at least .5 degree's for every 1psi . Sounds like it was tuned to the edge of being safe . And the gas for this winter maybe not very good [winter blend ] . Are you on a stock block ? And are you running the 3.12 pulley ? Seems like alot of boost for the stock blower at that rpm
1-2 degrees is not nearly enough being pulled, if i remember correctly, the ECU will normally run about 32-34 degrees advance at about 6000 rpms, around 28+degrees at 5000 rpm...
so, by you pulling 1-2 degrees, you are still most likely seeing a 30+ degree advance at high rpms!!! get the EU so you can see real time timing, much much safer way to tune!

that's after you have PULLED timing, correct..that's what i see when i pull 11-12 degrees!

The stock timing is at around 26 degrees. Some people suggest to pull 1/2 degree per lbs of boost, but I decided to pull 6 degrees from 4k rpm to redline, and I'm only running 7.5 psi. Its always good to be safe.

I recommend pulling .75 degrees per psi if you want a straight up retard. If you want a step retard, this is what I recommend:
0 to 3 psi pull .45 per psi
3 to 5 psi pull .55 per psi
5 to 7 psi pull .65 per psi
7 to 9 psi pull .75 per psi
9 to 30 psi pull .90 per psi
0 to 3 psi pull .45 per psi
3 to 5 psi pull .55 per psi
5 to 7 psi pull .65 per psi
7 to 9 psi pull .75 per psi

is there any danger in trying this with my r4 software for now ? i mean, can you pull too much timing ? also in the r4 software, the cells, basically the number thats in the cells is the number of degrees im pulling correct ? so if at 5k rpm im hitting 6 lbs of boost i should be pulling an extra 9-10 degrees of timing ? how bad will this affect my cars speed and boost ?

Wonder why [2] cars are that much difference ? Mine being 22 degree's advance and your 26 degree's . Could that acount for the extra HP the Z has over the G ?

93 octane. i will have an update later tomorrow, i had somone help me with the timing map. the noise i heard is now gone. i'll check with who helped me to see if he wants to say his name or he can chime in if he wants. im also hitting more boost now, found out the front plenum bolts under the engine cover were lose and the belt was a little lose. 9.4 lbs now at redline. steady boost linear graph now.
