Default FI and traction.

Well I have some assumptions and questions for everyone who has gone the FI route...

Most people who go FI, I don't imagine, race their car for long periods of time on large tracks right? I'd imagine there would be major heat issues.

Also, would it be accurate to say that alot of you FI people like to dragrace, and went the FI route because the acceleration is so drastic?

I can't get traction with the stock Z if i'm trying to take off from a standstill (VDC off). How the hell do you guys get traction? Seems like first gear must be a total waste after you add FI.

As far as a power curve goes, I can't even imagine trying to road race with a Single Turbo. Since, a linear HP/TQ cureve is almost always preferential, a ST might get real squirley unless it was in the hands of an experienced driver. If the Z were AWD it wouldn't matter...RWD is a totally different story of course.

My last question.. with all that power, what have you done to improve handling and stick to the road better? Just wider/stickier tires (front to back or just in the back)? Anything suspension wise? I'm guessing a racing LSD would do alot. But that would sacrifice daily drivability..

My car is in the works, but from the research I've done, yes heat can and will be an issue esp. on hotter days - but that's why you do an oil cooler and why people often upgrade the radiator, etc too.

Traction wise, that's also why I went with TT vs ST - a bit more linear power delivery and less change of "omfgnotraction" coming out of a turn. Still gonna have to stay off that fun-pedal

Actually haven driven my ST around a road course I don't have an issue with the power delivery. Its VERY linear at least in my car. Every person who drove the Mossy Z (Turbonetics ST kit) at MPG (Motor Press Guild Streets of Willow) seemed to agree with that assesment...

I don't have traction issues with my ST. My power is linear too. I've got 275s in the back and 245s in the front.

I pretty much swapped out the whole suspension before I went turbo. sways, coils, camber arms...works great.

I plan to add a oil cooler and hit a road course as soon as I get a chance. Power delivery is the least of my worries. Since I foresee myself piloting the course at higher speeds, my main concerns are heat, tires, and brakes.

Don't have any problem running FI with a road coarse except in the summer. That is why next week I will upgrade my radiator, I already have a oil cooler.

Your number one modification should always be tires! They make a world of difference on how your car perform.
All my other mods are in my signiture. The only one I am replacing is the front A-Arms w/ 350evo, just because I want to change the camber at the track. The Kinetix's work really well, just take to much time to change the camber. The rear Kinetix's camber/traction bars are easy to change the camber - so I am leaving them on.

Well, i'm pretty damn glad to hear that traction isn't as big an issue as I thought it would be

i went through my stock rims in like 3 days . then i went and got some wider tires. once i switched to the wider tires my traction is ALOT better, nothing at all like AWD, but pretty damn good. im catching STI's from a dig on the streets around the end of 1st or going into 2nd gear depending on the STI driver

Traction on the street with the ST on 285's is good when its above 60 out, otherwise its a spinfest. At the dragstrip no Z on here makes enough power to spin slicks when heated properly, so there you dont have to worry.

Slicks or DR's at the track...

I'm getting the Racelogic Traction Control system installed as we speak.
It's tuneable for street and track and I have great hopes in it.
I'll post results once I got it all dialed in

some people with turbos drive with drag radials full time and say they have 100% traction. Might be worth doing
