It happened a few hours ago. I was pulling away from a stoplight (not getting on it all) and all of sudden...BOOM, then I heard various ungodly clanking, and then an oil/coolant trail followed me all the way to a close parking lot, a trail probably at least 1/4 mile long!

Then there was the adventure of trying to get a flatbed in my area to pick up a lowered car with a bodykit. My front bumper is only about 4" off the ground. I thought I might have leave her overnight in this retail store parking lot. Man, what a nightmare! Luckily, I was finally able to find one who would come out and was actually very careful. I had to help lift the front end so they could get her up without scraping.

I'd appreciate any advice from you guys that have built your motors. What's the best approach and what you might do differently. I know everyone says you're never happy with the hp you have but I'm sure, I would be very satisfied with 500-550whp. I can't imagine a 100whp more than I have now.

Any help or advice for the build and these power goals would be greatly appreciated!

Um, chit happens. Check this out. All these people are FI and only a few have blown motors.

Let the original poster have his glory. Why would you post something like this in his thread? Don't hate because he has more power than you. It doesn't matter if he blows his motor cause he will just rebuild it. He plans on doing so this winter whether he blows it or not. Did you happen to miss that when you read this thread?

What are they doing about cooling at those levels? I really want to know because I have the TN kit and heat is going to be a bigger problem for me when I start to tune higher. BTW...great job!

I don't think heat is an issue at these levels as long as you have addressed the basics, better radiator and an oil cooler. Im currently running 463whp and 445trq and the only heat related issue i see is when i start to get air in my cooling system. That reaks havic in our motor. Other than that i don't think another 20-40 hp will require anything else but maybe a larger exhaust and possible hood vents or spacers.

Impressive numbers on the stock internals...What is the most confirmed "RWHP" to date that has been achieved on the stock engine internals????If I remember correctly wasnt Shariff pushing close to 600rwhp on the stock internals???I noticed he has built engine now..

Reason Im asking is Im having a discussion on another forum about the limit of the stock VQ35 as regards boost/rwhp levels...Some seem to think that it wont be able to handle 500rwhp without blowing up regardless of if it has a proper tune or not....But Im pretty sure Ive read here about a few guys in that 500rwhp range on stock internals if Im not mistaken....If I am let me know...

How does the REV UP motor feel under boost, especially with that 7000 rpm redline

I believe after 470 or 480 your pissin in the wind you might get some on you you might not. But definitely at that level or higher it should probably fail. Even with a good tune. There is only an infinite number of stress the internals can take.

UTR Carbon Fiber Engine Cover... Without going crazy with a custom paint job and chromed plenum, I think it's one of the nicer ways to dress the engine bay.

Thanks again to AAM for an awesome job on the car.

Wow....awesome car. I love it.....always loved the G35's....still do.

So you have 8psi w/all of your mods on the Rev Up motor....+ 20" wheels...I guess those didn't hurt you at all on the dyno since they were already spinning?

Oh, and what octane map did you have it tuned for?

What kind of dyno does AAM have? Thanks....and REALLY awesome car!

at altered atmosphere we use a dynojet dynamometer. to learn more about it you can check out:

I think we might want to clarify a few things:

My understanding is that 'Most' of us running high HP have boost controllers which allow us to run multiple maps/levels of boost. So the question about how much HP/Boost can the engine handle really needs to be caveated with how long you run it at the highest boost setting.

I run 490+hp @10PSI on stock internals (with a very conservative tune), but I don't drive the car at this level all the time, only when racing at the strip, or when the need arises on the street. Normal day-to-day driving I keep it at around 7 PSI and for really long trips, I turn it off completely and run the stock Greddy boost (around 5.5 PSI I think)

So, can you create a map for say 15 PSI on stock internals, tune it conservatively on race fuel and make 600hp, sure... Would it last long if you ran this boost level in a daily driver in bumper-to-bumper traffic... Probably not very long, but for short burst and driven right, it could last a pretty long time.

Regarding cooling for normal driving (not long extended races), I think most of us just upgrade the radiator, oil cooler and usually some modifications to the hood to allow hot air to escape.

I'm interested in more cooling for my car (just for normal driving). What GOOD brands of radiators are out there for us that you recommend? I like the idea of a vented hood for functionality, but not for looks....especially if the car is a sleeper. So I guess my only options are radiator & oil cooler....or move out of Texas? Haha.

BigBri ran 550whp for a while on a completely stock motor before he blew it up due to over-revving, NOT the power. GRD's shop car has nearly 20,000 miles around 510whp and they are shooting for 600whp this summer on the completely stock long block.

There are LOTS of guys in the high 400s and every once in a while you hear about one blowing up. I don't think it's anything to get one's panties in a bunch about since the failure rate has dropped to under 5% with FI Z's.

I think a lot of guys here go with Koyo radiators and I think Fluidyne makes a good cooler for Oil.
But like BrigGuyMax said, there are a lot of guys out there pushing a lot more then I am ... But I am catching up shortly.

Correct on the radiator however the fans take a lil modification, also check out B&M and I thing Setrag for the oil coolers. Or you can also try a 300ZX oil cooler.
