Has anyone switched out the wastegate on the turbonetics setup when they are over 400 hp? If so, which one did you go with, and do you like it?

if you're at 400whp you shouldn't need to change the gate.

hell, even to 500whp that gate should be more than fine.

 

Tial 38mm is slightly bigger and still fits in the stock bolt on 2 bolt flange. TN is perfectly fine for the app though.

 

The Evolution out of box wastegate has controlled boost on Modified Mags 465hp/525 ft/lb Z just fine at 14 PSI..

 

I don't want to be captain obvious here but the higher the boost the less exhaust gas you would bleed via wastegate. It's the guys under 400hp that would need a bigger wastegate. Why do you think the Supra guys with huge singles and big power are running a single 44mm wastegate at over 1000whp levels? Because they aren't "wasting" that much exhaust gas!

 

Well thats not 100% true...When the wastegate does vent it needs to be able to flow enough air out to regulate the boost pressure. With the amount of exhaust flow 1000 HP produces small gates aren't going to cut it. 44mm is actually on the larger size of available gates. The Turbonetics Newgen wastegate is the biggest I've seen on a street car (50mm)

 

My point is the lower you boost the more you vent. I know 44mm is large but only one for a 1000whp isn't. My other point was these guys are also building so much power for their displacement that they need all the exhaust gas energy they can build to spin those big turbos.

 

MIA is right. a 1000whp engine is producing twice the exhuast flow vs. a 500whp engine. So the bypass wastgates also needs to be larger, in order to effectively evacuate that torrant of exhuast gases produced by the engine.

 

I know this but my point is whenever you are running an extremely large turbo with a 3L motor you aren't going to bleed off that much exhaust gas. I get what you guys are saying you aren't getting what I'm saying. Look at this list and look how many guys are only using one 44mm wastegate. http://www.to4r.com/1k.php I know alot of Supra owners that actually go down in wastegate size.
