Jet Hot has offers a shiny finish, try them. They did my stuff, only I used the flat black JetHot 2000 which is good to 2k degrees.

they do a sterling coating but I just wanted to see what everyone else has done. i want it as shiny as possible. they said if the piping is under 3 in. then it is $15 a ft. 3 in. or over is $20. Does anyone know the exact size of the piping and how many feet I am looking at?

I might be able to snap a few tonight. They're really just flat black though, nothing too fancy.

I paid $350, and had my exhaust manifolds, turbo turbines, and downpipes coated in JetHot 2000, which is a little more expensive than their regular coating.

Cermakrome is also available. That is good to 1600 F degrees. It has a shiny chrome like finish, a bit flatter.

TurboX is the black stuff and that is good to 2000 F degrees

There is another company called Swain that makes an array of finishes that you might consider.
A key factor is how well the finish holds up. Some of them will dull or flatten over time, etc. If you have had a chance to look at the finishes on cars already, I would highly recommend that before you make your choice.
I can tell you that I have had mine now for five months and the Cermakrome has held up very nicely, even after eight track days.
The other thing to noodle on in addition to your thermal "barrier" coatings would be to put a thermal "transfer" coating on the return to the intercooler, and perhaps on the lower oil pan. That type of coating helps to express heat away. Obviously we are only talking marginal benefits, but if I was doing this again, I would do that. Indeed since taking off the intercooler return pipe and the lower pan is very easy, I may go ahead and do it in the future when I have the car down for a few days anyway.

hmmm...maybe i will do that. good suggestions. I don't really have time to check out other cars since I don't really know of any that are local. I guess I will just have to take my chances!

Then, when you go to the shop, ask to see some that they have for other cars, or pictures if they have them. And be very careful to get the exact brand name and specifications of the coatings they are going to use, because a lot of shops will respond to your using terms like Jet Hot, Swain or others as a generic suggestion that you want a thermal coating, and what you wind up with could be something different. And they are NOT all the same. Be very particular about what it is you are getting, what temps it operates for, where it goes, etc. If they can't nail it on every aspect, show you the cans it comes from etc., get out of there fast and find somebody else to do the application.

1300 F degree rating for the satin/chrome finish products is what you get. Just be sure that you actually SEE it before you use it. It will not be chrome. It will be "chrome like"....which is to say it is nowhere near as shiny as chrome like, it is definitely more satin like. I thought the CermaKrome looked better than the Sterling, but it is purely a matter of individual taste and perception.

The company that makes CermaKrome is Techline, and they have a few short blurbs on their coatings. The Turbo X is black or blue in color. You really don't see it on our motors unless you look for it since the turbo units and the exhaust manifolds are covered over with other stuff or tucked away. For the oil pan (which you really don't see!!!) they have a dispersant and it is described here:

http://www.techlinecoatings.com/arti...an_Article.htm

You can also consider using the dispersant on the outside of your upper plenum....but if you take the plenum cover off as many people do, again better check it out to be sure you like the look of it. Some folks don't care about that, others polish the little fellas and might care a lot. I took the cover off mine to improve the flow of air directly on it and to facilitate improved heat exchange, particularly with the vented hood, but I did not coat it with TD.

I had mine done at Olympic Coating, in the San Diego (Escondido) area, if I recall correctly.

thanks for all of your help eagle. i trust anything you say since you are experienced in many areas. if you think that your finish looked better than the jet hot sterling than i am going to go with what you said. if i call them up, the finish is actually called CermaKrome right?

CermaKrome is the name. Techline Coatings is the manufacturer.
