Check with Tim @ SFR. Here's my emails from him for my own application.

Bill - John wants to wait for the DSport system but U know him - if it's not up to his specs then he'll custom fabricate one for me!! As U well know ( since U've been there first! ), anything in the double digit boost range lends itself to belt slippage ( even with our larger FMIC's ). so we're stepping off the deep end here with 20#+ of boost. Been keeping track of your own posts as well so any info-sharing U'd care to do will be greatly appreciated.

As for the tranny, Tim @ SFR says that they have their own clutch packs for our trannies so they install those plus redo the valve body for firmer shifts & finally mod the T/C for whatever stall U specify. John & I have decided that 3k rpms would allow the motor to flash-stall into the lower end of it's powerband & since I'd already had Level 10 restall mine to that stall speed 2 years ago I can save a little $$ by going with it as it is. The L10 V/B mod, however, doesn't shift as firmly as I'd like so Tim said they can re-mod it into SFR's specs. The cost is roughly $3750 ( & the 4L80E setup was $4200 ) so U can see it's a wash price-wise.
Here's Tim's reply email to John & myself:
Note the power level John's throwing around!!!!

We put in new clutch packs with different clearances.Modify the valve body and do the convertor. The valvebody is responsible for the shifting firmness. It does help quite a bit.We can set up the stall of the convertor the way you want.

Can you guys tell me what you do to these trannies and do you have any means of adjusting shift points and firmness?

Word has it you guys have a transmission upgrade available forthe Nissan 5AT for 350z/G35 that is capable of withstanding 1000+HP. I have a 5AT customer that we are going well beyond the limitations of the factory trans to the tune of 700 w/100 shot. Looking to do complete swap for GM L80e over drivetranny with stand alone TCM but that’s only if no one has anything to beef up the factory tranny.

Thanks

awesome that they have come out with parts for the tranny!

I've also heard there is the possibility of getting a real SMT for the Z... its EXPENSIVE... but talk about an awesome trans that can hold the power

I've spoken with Mark @ SGP several times since they're much closer to me & he says that the manufacurer of the better packs is busy working on other applications first so the SGP site has been saying 3 months for almost 4 months ( although I KNOW it's not Mark's fault ). Sharif's also working with someone to do the same thing so patience should pay off for us - eventually!!

To put a bit of perspective on it, there's only a limited number of companies who can manufacture this sort of product. Two of the better companies are Raybestos and Alto.

Raybestos doesn't currently support the RE5R05A.

I've contacted Alto, they said they'll have upgraded clutch pack units available in August, they currently have OE quality rebuild kits available.

Unless there's a third company that is a reputable manufacturer of transmission rebuild parts that supports our transmission, odds are SGP is going to be using the Alto parts.

If anyone has them, they are not high performance Alto Red Eagle parts. maybe Raybestos high performance or standard Alto parts. Alto Red Eagle and Keolene parts are almost done and are worth the wait over aftermarket OE grade parts. I doubt any of the shops that have some of the parts available are going to share the info on exactly what parts and what grade of materials the are, they are in the business for profit and this is very a obscure market.

+1 As frustrating as the wait is, the Alto Red Eagle and Kolene parts will be worth it. I have seen pictures of some of the parts from the Level 10 "performance upgrade" and it was mostly parts from the TransTec overhaul kits which is a rebuild kit. Yes, those parts may be improved over stock, but they're not a high performance replacement.
