Default Procharger or Vortech - Has anyone Blown their Engine RECENTLY?

I know at the beginning many people blew their engines with the Procharger out of the box set-up,

BUT, recently I have not heard about any failures.

What I am really looking for is:

Has anyone blown their engines up with the out of the box Procharger or Vortech systems recently, like the last year?

I really want to go Procharger as it is the easiest system to install, no hacking the wiring harness, no tapping the oil pan, no belt slippage problems, etc....

I know many people will address the timing issue with the Procharger, but that is why I want to see the facts on out of the box systems, especially without additinal electronics.

Thanks,

Howard

Every one knows now that you need some type of timing retard with the Prcharger [ that doesnt come with the kit ] Procharger also has issues with tearing belts up because of the bracket flexing .

Ive never heard of any one blowing a Motor with the stock Vortech [ out of the box kit...that I recall ]

Both SC's have a few issues that need to be dealed with . Just like any FI kit for our cars .

With the stock kit blower . The ATI probably has more potential for more HP and trq.

get a good tune and you won't be blowing your motor

I've been on a lot of boards and talked to a lot of guys with vortechs and prochargers and if I recall everyone who has blown something on their engine it was a year or two ago back before there was more knowledge about the engine with what's safe and what isn't etc.

Actually most people I've talked to who have blown their engine ended up breaking a ring on a piston - so it wasn't even a catastrophic failure. The car was almost always drivable still, but there was either a rattling noise, a loss of power, or a BUNCH of smoke coming out the tailpipes.

I'm sure someone somewhere broke a rod and ruined the block, but you don't hear about those cases with the vortech very much. I think those cases happened with the early prochargers that didn't have a timing solution.

Otherwise, the people really pushing big power on the vortech or ATI kits, some of them have run into head lift issues - which has been the hot topic for the last few months people have been trying to tackle

Thanks for the info guys.

I really like the Vortech kit alot.

I recently was told that the JWT and AAM oil pan spacer kits put the oil feed line in a bad spot???

I like my cars to go back to stock easily, hence the Autosport wiring harness and Oil Pan spacer kit.

Also, did Vortech ever solve the Fuel Line connection problems and the stuck FMU problems I have heard about?

Thanks,

Howard

Bumpiddy bump! My Vortech will be in my hot little hands in time for fireworks! Curious about these issues myself. Should I splurge and get an APS oil pan?Hope we can get some feedback on these things.

I am using the JWT oil pan. It works fine for me except for the fact that the amount of return line that Vortech gives you is not enough. This is a simple fix however.

APS pan is the best setup you can do, or something similar. The JWT pan spacer is the next best.

The APS has heat fins and oil baffles to help prevent oil starvation while cornering - IMO worth it if you plan on doing lots of abusive cornering or tracking

I heard of 4 people that blew their motors with a procharger in the past year... one here:
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....ght=procharger

one was a 16y/o.. i think his bro has a TT on these forums... he bought his car pre-supercharged from someone in new england.. That car was tuned properly i believe with an emanage

one blew it at the track last summer.. i think he had 380cc injectors and a technosquare reflash

one blew it last december... stock ATI fuel system..

I've been running my ATI, soon to be, 20K miles. Probably not as many as leemik, but I'm catching him I'm sure. I have read many post of people shredding belts. But I'm not one of them. I still have the original belts on. I just tighten them every once and a while. I take my car in twice a year to a shop in Dallas and make sure everything is perfect. They do a quick dyno run, look it over, take my $50, and all is well. Regardless of which system you get, if you will take the time to give it proper care, it should be good for a lot of miles.

How is this fixed? Adding some on or getting a whole new return line?

that is GREAT advice
having an experienced mechanic or your installer check everything over on a lift every 6 months or so and check the tune or retune for summer/winter IMO is about as important as changing your oil on time on an aftermarket FI car

Yes this sounds like a great idea, I am starting a good relationship with a shop here in town. I think Im going to see if Sharif has any APS oil pans, worth the splurge imo.
Are you the white Z in TX? Car looks nice

Well, the majority of people with superchargers in my area run prochargers.. I myself have one.. there are only 2 Vortech cars that I know of.. one of those blew as well.. it was a G35.. "kanzard".. his SS box went bad.. (but that was in April of 2005 so it doesn't count in this post lol)

It all comes down to the tuning.. and in New England there are not very many good VQ tuners...

Yup, just get a longer piece. Not a big deal. It is just clamped on, it is not a special AN line or anything.

Cool, my list is growing. If I were to go with the APS pan would I have the same issue? Thinking of just going with that, since I think I would anyway. Thanks! Sentry, sorry Im getting confused
