Default Interim clutch for F/I

I need to order a clutch in the morning. the car car runs fine but in 5th gear i'll punch it and it'll slip a little and then pick up. it won't do it from a stop though. i just want to get a clutch that will hold me till winter 07. by then i'll build the motor and go with an ats twin carbon. right now i'm looking for something cost effective. jwt, act, and clutchmasters are on my short list. i just need to know if these clutches will hold the occasional 420wtrq. if i don't get an answer i'll do a search. i just want some recent opinions. holla.

Gonna do the clutchmasters stage 3 without the flywheel. I'll wait until i get the motor built and get the ats twin carbon.

I just saw this thread. That's a good choice IMO... Should be smooth and quite (though a little stiff).

I had no idea you had plans to build your G. Any idea what you are going for yet?

The ACT clutch will hold 519 ft/lb per Daryl at ACT. I have it in my car at 380 WHP and its been great. I used the JWT flywheel but wish I had gotten the ACT Prolite flywheel. I drove another Turbonetics Z with the Prolite flywheel and its was noticeably better to me...

MIA- Yeah , i was up in the air about the act vs. clutchmasters clutches. definately didn't want the flywheel cuz i couldn't stand riding in the g35 with a "cememnt mixer" sound, regardless of rpm. car version2 found the stage 3 clutchmasters clutch for 500 bucks, which was a little cheaper than the act.

HT4- Yeah, i'm gonna build the engine probably next year. I'm keeping the car unless my girl buys me the gtr!! Hoping with cams and turbo i should push close to 575 on race fuel. btw how did that english "test" go for you? i saw the thread on another site. YOU DA MAN!!!!!!

I guess you heard the mixer noise in my car? That is one of my only regrets with the system: that low rpm chatter that I get if I put the engine under load. I don't get it over 2k, but I can never start out in 2nd gear unless I want to sound like a school bus.

575whp? Damn. Do you still think they will call you "Low Boost?"

I can't have you beating me by that much. I guess I need to start looking at forged goodies. Are you going to have it done in house at Car V2 or have a prebuilt bottom end shipped from a dedicated builder?

I guess you could say that I passed the english test... LOL. Meaning: I didn't return the call. Luckily, I was out with someone else when the call came in so I didn't have to deal with the temptation. Lord knows what I would have done if I didn't already have a girl on my arm.

great choices...I personally went with the ACT HD pressure plate, SS discs, and Prolite Flywheel. After researching and talking to other people, it seemed like the best setup that would hold around 500tq, moderately stiff pedal/smooth engagement, and I believe has a 13lb flywheel which is a hair lighter than JWT and others, but not too light.

You'd be surprised - I bet a lot of manufacturers are using the same lightened flywheels. JWT, SPEC, FIDANZA are all the same flywheels

Actually i didn't hear it in your car. i was so focused on how quiet your exhaust was at idle and cruise. jay, james and i went to VA for a photo shoot and we got video of the g running full blast in the harbor tunnel. i love the sound the jic makes at full boost. but for everyday driving, it's too loud.

Most likely i'll get a built shortblock from one of those guys out west and have james put it all back together. I think wes, the guy with the pe kit is building his this winter. And no, i think the low boost tag will be out the door.

Your'e still the man!!!!!!!

I assure you the ACT flywheel is not the same as others. Its a solid chromoly unit that is machined in house. The closest flywheel like it is the Jun which I think we can agree is not made at ACT or vice versa.

I have the JWT clutch at 413 WHP and it held just fine bumped the boost 1psi and retuned on the road, still holding fine with an unknown WHP. But holding firm and definately a noticable HP diffrence from the Dyno.

If its interm get the cheapst one that will hold and sell it when you upgrade.

Right now I would guess well over 400rwtq, I was at 396rwtq before my extra 1psi.

Exactly...
The ACT is definately different than those other flywheels. I will post pics when I do the review on my setup. Some companies also take other products and make modifications to them to make them different and then stamp their name on it. But this is in fact, like MIA said, not a JWT clone.

Would it be ok to just buy the clutch with no flywheel? I really dont see the need for a light flywheel with what im trying to do. I just need something that will handle a twin turbo set up.
