Default First ever ride in a FI Z!!! Forged Performance TN

Met up with Derek (DJSMITTY) today to check out his Forged Performance single TN setup. Nice white Z on some deep dish racing harts with a squatted stance--Looked really good--so good that I bumped his door with mine --luckily no marks for either of us I APOLOGIZE AGAIN--I NEVER DO THIS--I'M SO CAREFUL

I was surprised of where the turbo is first off--it was where the ATI or Vortec would be. It had nice "black chrome" finished piping with a big polished BOV that sounds WICKED.

The ride--the car makes really good linear power and we were up to 131mph in no time (on the closed coarse ) The BOV is really addictive. The whoosh is so sweet.

Shariff--the performance is there and what Derek has I'd be happy with, but I can't stand CEL on. Is it common for them to stay on? That makes it near impossible for an inspection sticker--even when I know where to go with the way NCDMV logs a vin# with their mainframe.

Again, the car idled like stock with a little rasp from the Fujitsobo exhaust and was the perfect steet fighter IMO.

I returned the favor by giving him a ride in my blown C5

Nice to meet you Derek. It's always nice to talk cars with other care enthusiasts! That's the way to kick off a vacation

SWEET RIDE. I really like the Z's overall size compared to the vette--there's a reason they made the C6 smaller.

I want a ride in a blown C5 , glad to hear you liked the experience.

Next you have to ride in a 750WHP G35 which idles like a kitten

Good meeting you too today Don't worry about the door haha. Your vette is just plain NASTY. I enjoyed the ride in that thing for sure. I wasn't aware it was supercharged when I pulled up until you popped the hood and I was like DAMN lol. The corvette pulled like it would never stop making power, almost scary! Hopefully we can get up again sometime. Later on

Oh yeah, you also have inspired me to go with a personal license plate as well, think I am gonna go with SPOOLZZZ

Derek

Nice plate idea--(DJSMITTY) would be cool too--esp with other Z owners out and about. My plate is my forum handle here and on corvetteforum.com--BLOWNINC and BLOWN-NC were taken. If you ever see a Ferrari red C5 (and it is really Ferrari red paint) with black wheels like mine, that is Rick. His plate is BLOWNVET. That's the one I was telling you about with the built 383, Procharger F1 at 12-15# of boost. 2 people in the hatch couldn't keep it from spinning on the dyno. It came out with like 700rwhp at 6000rpm--it will redlline at 7000

Just don't take mine I have planned for the Z--ZLEEPER--as I plan to stay stock wheels and no body kit, but with that "whooooosh" is for sure

I have a crossbar with camera mount, but the camera stayed at home today

750rwhp in a Z would be insane........so would getting any traction. What does a Z with that much power run in the 1/4?

Sounds a lot like my car.

I'd like to see the blown C5. Those things are wicked.

Well, that's funny as Derek referred to your setup while we were joyriding!

Go to corvetteforum.com, events, southeast, and look for a thread started by blown in n.c. You can see a pic of the car in my avatar. That's me and Humpy Wheeler at Lowe's Motor Speedway shaking hands as I get my best of show trophy.

LOL..wow...looks you guys had some fun! Glad you are both enjoying the ride.

In regards to the CEL, its a common byproduct of forced induction. The most common code is cat inefficency, followed by random cylinder misfire.

In regards to emissions, without a cat on the car, the CEL is the least of most people's worries. Derek, when you need a smog check...lemme know. I can help

i went to see if i passed emmisions this morning, i cleared my codes, but apprently the car has to go through several drive cycles without a code to clear the "ghost codes" and pass the obd2 check (i had heard this, but needed to go through the process and fail so i could get a one yr extension (they do that here, if the costs of repair exceed $300 , they give you a one yr grace period to fix the issues to pass the test)

so, next year, ill put on my stock exhaust and drive around for a week, slowly and gingerly, hopefully that will appease the emmisions police

they were looking for cats (i have 3.5" downspipes)..they were crawling under my car with a flashlight, i kept telling them, it is there, right after the turbo, ehat you cant see it??? ...they finally gave up trying to identify the "cat" and gave me the one yr grace period...i might be moving to a different county by next year, they dont have emissions there

what do you do to get the cars legit sharif?

also, i have an EVAP code..any ideas...
along with randon cylinder misfire and cat insufficiency

He's not running cats--do they make o2 simulators for these cars? That's how we get around it in the v9 world.

I can't do the CEL light thing. I'd always think something is wrong. The one in the vette has NEVER come on! Swift Racing in MD almost got my business with my Is300, but said the CEL light would be an issue.

Taurran--no problems with the CEL?

Shariff--Would be easier to live with/correct if you were closer, but you are 3 hours away.

On the vette you can clear the codes on the DIC and see what/why it triggerred, BUT if you do, you will have to put 500 miles on it to pass emissions. If you don't it will say "not ready" in 3 areas and fail you. In an impala, you can reset, accelerate to 100 and let it coast to a stop and it will be ready to pass---go figure.

CEL are not uncommon with turbos, but still should not be common place. I haven't had a CEL on my setup.

Nope, I've had it go off maybe 3x randomly on startup in the first 2 months I had the turbo. This is quite common on these cars, but it did clear out within an hour own its own. Since then, I've been CEL-free. I've had this kit installed for about 1 1/4 yrs now.

It's not common to have a constant CEL light on. Depending on the code, it may be misfiring often during operation. As suggested by others previously, I'd probably check the plugs or ignition coil packs for issues. Others may want to chime in on this as well.

These cars have a mind of their own. Some people can remove cats, and never get a CEL, and others get one immediately. If the CEL concerns you, there are various 02 simulators found on EBAY that will do the trick.

Vortech's retain factory fuel injectors, and most of the Vortech people run stock or high flow cats.....less chance of a CEL.

I agree with the CELs being random. Some people never get it. Some people have gotten it stock. Its stupid.
