Default Any dangers in running really rich?

Hey guys, I just finished installing my Vortech a few days ago and have been driving around having a blast with it. However, according to my innovative wideband, the car runs pig *** rich at WOT, 7.5 - 8.0. I realized I am not taking full advantage of my setup with such a rich AF, but are there any disadvantages to running it like this? I am really happy with the way it pulls and i know with an AF like that theres not a chance in hell it will ping. Any feedback is appreciated.

you might wash the oil off of your cylidner walls and could damage your pistons... something like that

7.5-8 is unbelievable - literally. Your car would run like complete crap. I'd check your O2 sensor on that wideband - it may be defective.

You are running it untuned? VERY RISKY! I wouldnt boost at all before you get it tuned just to see where you are running at. You may not know something is wrong before you hear something go. Dod you change out your plugs?

7.5-8.5...Your looking at your boost...8.5 A/f would not ever register on the wideband and your plugs would foul out instantly..

I dont even know of a gauge that reads that rich honestly - the car would literally not even rev if it were that rich

I agree with Z1 and MRC. The engine will start to sputter right around 9.0:1 or lower. There must be something wrong with the calibration on your wideband.

wait until morning to recalibrate it as it has to calibrate in clean air. Overnight will allow all the exhaust gases to exit. Turn the key to the on position and let the sensor warm up, but don't start the car. Then calibrate it....then start the car and drive it.

Id say that for safety's sake dont boost it. The out of box tune is safe to drive to your tuner, or drive to and from work, but not boosting. As the pro's have mentioned your w/b may be out of cal, thats playing with fire imo. SS boxes go bad or maps get corrupted, lots of "what ifs" Id rather not worry about.Even if you dont get it tuned, go get it dynoed to see where you are running a/f wise. Or log it from your w/b if you have that ability. Im on the paraniod side and this is just my opinion, but Im sure most others will agree.

I couldnt agree more. Even on the dyno, the SS box does some funny things. Always have to be watching stuff. The good news is, once its tuned safely, you should be good to go.

I had a similar problem with my wide band - I tired to re-cal and it still didn't function correctly. Took some advice from Sharif, (Thanks again) I unplugged the O2 sensor, turned the car on to the accessory position for 30 seconds and then turned it off - plugged the O2 sensor back in and turned the car on again to the accessory position - the gauge will automatically go through the re-cal sequence - All was well after that for me.

SSV...

Every car I've seen with it installed runs rich as hell.

By the way - where are you getting it tuned? If its at XAT Racing or Z Fever I might stop by.
