Default Best FI cam?

Hi,

I'm trying to find out which FI cam would suit best with my expectations. I'm looking for a cam that would add the most power while keeping the stock or stock-like drivability of my car. Also I need a shop that makes international sales so that i can get those cams. I'm sending my ecu to AAM next week to have the idle raised to 1000rpm. With addition to my mods below, I've received my Cosworth heads today. Pictures and review soon!

BTW I tried searching on the subject but couldn't find any good info on this.

Im not sure this is the case in practice. The trend at the higher levels of power producing built import motors around the world seems to be towards big lift, high overlap cams to make their power and spin big turbos. And while the specs of the Tomei 268 are biggish with the current selection of cams for the zed they still dont match up to some of the other offerings available for other motors. eg 12mm lift, 272 or 290 duration etc.

I chose the 268s to try to move power up the rpm band and continue to make power over an increase rev limit.

you'll want something wtih as much lift as possible without getting valve slap. Not too much overlap. I'm not a big fan cams like 272s with low lift.......i like something close to a 265-266 with big lift.

I heard the JWT's are good...S1s or S2s.

Do you know the specs of the scotts cams so we can try to make a comparison with the other cams on the market?

I know its not accurate as there are alot of things which go into a camshaft profile that arent covered in the numbers but at least that would let us know if they are infact different somehow. Whether that difference is putting out more power or not is up for debate.

It would be great to see back to back dyno figures on the same car with all the cams on the market on a built FI zed. Too much labour to swap the heads, perhaps if a magazine was interested?

Don't quote me please. i think they were like 240 duration with 10.25-10.35mm of lift. these are the stage ones. the idle is clean with a slight lope, no idle issues( i didn't adjust the idle at all), and the only cel i get is that pesky misfire on occasion. these cams were meant for f/i!!! I picked up 35whp adding these cam and utec to my car. (boost was increased about .5 psi) the stage ones require no shimming or modifications to install. win-win in my book. check the writeup on my build.

I just got a set of new JWT C2 cams (not S2) and will give those a shot when I finish my build.

ANYTIME you swap out cams, you are going to want to check the clearances between the cam lobe and the lifters (if that is what you meant by "not having to shim"

You may get lucky and be close, but I have heard many stories of noisy heads when the valves are not adjusted..we ALWAYs adjust the valves anytime we swap in a different cam highly recommended!

+1 for Scott's Cams...very little overlap, spool quickly...the tomei's will ramp up power up top with less timing (i know because i proved it), but I bet the same can be achieved with the Scott's perfromance cams with a bit more timing

Scott cams bar none. Specifically designed for FI.

Stage 1: Great for street. Easy 30-40 whp w/o drivability issues
Stage 2: Usable on the street. More lift = more power
Stage 3: Custom order only. Huge lift/Short duration/Very unique ramp.
Designed to continue power into/passed 8k rpm.
