Same place they do in the Turbonetics install instructions.

A quick compression test could shed some light on this mystery, you should do one...

I have quite a few miles on my car with the TN Kit along with how long in general it has been on the car and luckily I have not had this issue... And my oil return is tapped in the upper oil pan so that may be a benefit as you have said from your observation and MIAPLAYA has said in the past as the possible reason for the turbo seals going bad when the oil return is located lower.

common problem with turbo engine. My friend turbo mr 2 has same issue. It's blown head gasket.

I've run 30k miles without losing a seal. I have the return tapped in the upper pan and I do have the JWT pan spacer but the return doesn't go there. I agree with taurran the cars I've seen lose seals have all had pan spacers tapped for the return.

After doing a compression and leak down test on my car after noticing white smoke on the dyno and removing the turbo to check shaft play, I installed a catch-can and honestly now I have no smoke of any color. I have great vacuum at idle, so we ruled out head gasket issues. 21-23 hg at idle now. Anyway, good luck to you.

Please don't flame me, if I completely missed it, I am what most would call, "SEVERELY MECHANICALLY CHALLENGED"!!!

REVIVED..

Well I took off the Turbo and didn't see any oil a while back. Since then I haven't gotten on it until yesterday and the smoke returned but only after a WOT run.

Is it possible oil is exiting and since I don't have a catch can its recirculating into the intake and burning... Thus white smoke???

Or something to do with the WOT run causing max oil pressure??

headgasket will typicaly produce the following symptoms:

car overheats (this is if there is a compromise between the combustion chamber and the cooling channels)

white smoke out back (when enough coolant gets into the combustion chamber- it burns and produces whitish smoke)

milky oil (coolant gets into the oil- compromise between coolant channel and oil channel on sufrcae of block/cracked head/ or cracked cylinder-unlikely)
* this is not always a huge issue (if it is an extremely small amount)- spoke with my machinist in detail about this yesterday, he has been building performance motors for over 35 years...his machine shop is ALL performance motors- he has tons of experience in this department!
He stated that mild cylinder head lift is an issue encountered on almost every turbo-charged motor out there- the solution at times can be retorquing the head studs after 1000 miles (as recommended and nobody does this)...also a few other tricks- but these involve building the motor...point being, not always a telltale sign of REQUIRING pulling the motor immediately.

good luck, hope its nothing serious!

Oil and coolant are fine. I am not burning any oil, well if I am its a very small amount. It's probably nothing and the kit is 13 months old so I guess its possible the seals are getting tired.

I just replaced my turbo for the seal. I had white smoke comig from my exhaust for a month under wot and then I noticed that I had smoke coming from under my hood. I looked, and saw a oil leak from the turbo. I also didn't have a catch can. I just put the turbo back in last night and no more smoke.

how much did it cost to have it rebuilt or whatever they did? Hmm maybe this is a good time to get the Turbo modified to kick out a little more power..

It didn't cost anything. Just the cost of shipping it out which I think was $35. I got the turbo back fast too, a lot sooner than I expected. Which is always nice. They didn't even rebuild it, They just sent a new one. I didn't even include a description of what was wrong with the turbo. And I cleaned it before I sent it so there was no way of telling exactly what was wrong with it.

They wanted a name, address, proof of purchase, and a phone number included. I called turbonetics and they gave me an rga I think it was, has something to do with shipping, I don't remember. Something like that though.

let us know how it goes in a few days.........a person still had problems with smoke issue after the turbo was replaced three times.......awesome customer service regardless, however, the happy bigger picture would be if the problem was solved after the 2nd replacement.....it's hard to believe two new bad t60 in a row...

Hmm I dont have a catch can so I just ordered one from Forged...Hopefully that will resolve the issue as some people claimed it has.

I'd try it you'll want a catch can anyway. Plus if it works and you don't have to send in the turbo that would be great.
