a bit more to it than that. a perfect weld can be stronger than the original material. It takes alot of time, practice, and a good understanding of material science. Some of my old engineering books had alot of info on the strength of different types of welds.
On the other hand, a bad weld won't get the proper penetration and could easily end up in a broken joint.

thats all i am sayingthanks everybody else!!! Ian, i havent driven it like that cause i didnt want to put any unnecessary stress on the body or frame till the cage is in....
Damn, that is hot and sad at the same time. Your car is a beast and losing more weight will only make it faster. On the flipside its too hardcore for me to ever do in the Z-my beater is gutted and I live with it every day and the road noise/creeks, pops, bangs suck! Crazy bastard...
no more pics until i get the cage all finished, then i will lay a really thing layer of black carpet down, put the pads on the cage where they have to be and make sure its all cleaned up and painted inside...
yeah alberto, i was thinking the same way and sometimes i think "WTF an i doing??" then i am like, "who cares!!" then i tell the hooker "i swear i thought that check was good!!"

just think if your car was the same speed it is now but shifted instantly... fun fun, i would say you spend at least a total of a second (lowballing it) banging through gears. not accelerating if you are shifting....
i will see how it works and how it drives around on the street.

i will be driving mine on the street just as much as you will, im leaving the air in, radio, everything for a while. this WILL be a street car, there are lots of american cars that drive around on a th400 everyday. hehehe
just will be fully caged!!
as long as you don't too high on the converter stall speed, you'll be fine. plus, use a great big tranny cooler. heat is about the only thing that kills auto trannies.
BTW, are you going with a full manaul valve body (standard or reverse pattern)? what about a trans brake?
