Default Transmission is F**ked after 400miles

Just got my 350z back with a vortech supercharger 5at. I ve put about 400miles on the trans w/ the SC thus far. I was driving down the road today going 45mph ( regular driving ) and all of a sudden the car reved out and I slowed down. Then it wouldnt go any faster than about 10mph wont go up hill just sounds like im in ( N ) reving the car up but its in drive. Same thing is happening in ( R ) I think the trans is shot after 400miles of driving normal? Ive got 46,000 on the car right now.

Lots of folks run Vortech on a 5AT with no problems. BUT you may have just had a weak tranny.

Based on comments from your earlier post, it was toast before you got the Vortech......good luck on the tranny replacement.....

"Only problem is the At5 slips in 1st, and 2nd even in manual ship mode because if you try to time the delay the car just hits redline so fast you can keep up with it and your pull is basically shot.

I was also told that in 15,-20,000 miles the tranny would prob go completely.

What can I do to run clean throught 1st and 2nd at the track and on the street. Also what could I do so that the tranny will last.

will the Vb upgrade give me that quick quick shift, and prolong tranny life? or am I just going to have to face the fact that every 15-20,000 miles im going to need a completely new transmission for my AT?

Please help I'd like to utilize the power I spent so much on, and at the same time not go through a new transmission every year......"

Alto USA offers a OE rebuild kit for the 5AT trannies. It may be cheaper to find a good tranny guy and rebuild than to find a replacement to swap it with.

It would probably be cheaper to put a 6MT in there than to replace the 5AT, especially if they go every 15K..

I dont think you can in a 03'

If so... How much do you think that would cost to convert? It prob be cheaper just to take all my stuff off and trade the car in for a new one

Your in Exton Right?

I have a great mechanic shop here in Sutton WV that works for $30 per shop hour and would probably tackle it in short order.

I would say you could pick up the 6MT off salvage with low miles for $1,500 to $2K, Other Parts would run you about $500 and Labor about $600-$1000, So lets say $2,500 to $3,500 Tops. Getting a 5AT will probably run you about the Same since they generally run about $1K more at Salvage. (I have had to replace 2 trannys in different cars).

As for Trading it in, I doubt you could get much for it with a broke tranny, they would just take the cost of the repair out of your trade value and then you would be stuck wit the bill to un-install and then re-install all of your mods.

Let me know if you want the shops info.

Maybe you should invest in a tranny cooler for the AT

What about the differences in ecu's between autos and manuals? There may be some wiring issues as well. The ecu is dependent on the key/immobilizer also. It may not be worth the cost. I don't know anyone who has pulled of such a swap. It's easier on older cars, but on new ones with immobilizers and drive by wire, it may not be cost effective.

Just build the tranny and call it done.

Good luck!

It might be cheaper to take off the Vortech and then get the Tranny replace under warranty. Then reinstall the Vortech.
