Default Another one bites the dust

Well its been one hell of a ride! Pushing the stock block to its limit. Finally gave way. Believe its a bent rod. Won't know forsure until we get it out. About 3 weeks ago I had it dynod and I put down 485whp and 459tq on a dynojet. Not bad on the stocker.

Went to the track last night...shoulda known haha but you pay to play...

About top of 3rd gear it backfired twice before I could let out...coasted home and then heard the knock. SO LOUD!!!! Like nothing I've ever heard. Still have great oil presure...wasn't overheating...not smoking...just knocking like a BIOTCH!!!!!!

I can feel it in the clutch pedal when I push it in and out. Going to drop the tranny first just to see if anything falls out, altho it shifts fine and no change in noise with clutch pressed..thought at first maybe flywheel cracked on me, but maybe im day dreaming with the backfire

I have almost 12k miles on FI.

About the track...well...spinning through 1st and 2nd then letting out only ran an 8.50...i through the slip away so no clue on the mph

Guess its time for that built motor...need more money gah!!!

Russ

P.S. Ill post some pix when we find out what happened

8.5 1/8 would have been low 13's or very high 12's down the 1/4-little slow for your whp but hey traction is a b!tch. Im sorry to read of your motor, plan on building? Remind me again what kit did you have? Good luck in the future with the car....

yeah what doug said lol...yeah running the worst street tires ever is fun for drifting and showing off but on track its just pointless...atleast it sounded good going down haha...my 60ft was a 2.1! haha I ran that N/A! I feel it would have been atleast a 8.0 if i wouldnt have let out.

That backfiring tho has me stumped...

W/I was working...possible it had a little hicup or something? This may actually turn out to be a bent valve instead! Atleast thats what i'm hoping for!

Yeah I do plan on building but just don't know exactly what or when I want it. Might just save up on the gas and drive the beater for awhile then go fully built...who knows

You didn't bounce off the rev limiter did you?

Well, good luck with the rebuild. Remember that things will get better.

I have before but I was really careful not to...I knew i was going to spin so i short shifted 1st and 2nd to avoid hitting the rev limiter

Are you sure the engine is blown? Based on your description, it sounds more like your tranny or clutch too a crapola.

Does the engine run and idle smoothly?

Thats what I've been thinking this whole time...engine runs and idles like a dream aside from the knocking.

Yup, sounds more and more like its your clutch or tranny...probably the clutch if it wont go into any gear with the engine running.

well thats the kicker...its shifts like its always shifted There is no difference in sound when clutch is pressed... totally thrown for a loop here...maybe flywheel? flywheel bolt? Its definitely at the back of the motor.

Did a compression test and all were around 150 or more

Just turning the engine over there is no knock. Put the plugs back in with no coils and still no knock.

But the moment it starts up its knocking like crazy.

Dropped the greddy oil pan and found a tiny piece of metal. That cannot be good at all. Maybe a piston skirt shattered? Would a bearing knock or slap like that? And would it be knocking hard enough to actually feel it in the clutch peddle? You can actually see the clutch linkage shaking too.
