Looking for Facts on Supercharging my Z
If you are going to be a dyno queen, than Stillen is not the way to go. If you are going to be racing at the local 1/4 mile'r...Stillen is not the way to go. But, if you are just a daily driver and like to do stoplight - stoplight racing/driving...Stillen is for you.
I still don't understand why so many people get hung up on peak HP/TQ numbers...they don't mean squat when you do not drive your vehicle in that RPM range on a daily basis (this does not apply to everyone...we all have our own specific driving habits). But the Vortechs and ProChargers power comes on somewhere around 4k rpms and peaks at 6k(+) rpms. I very rarely spin my motor that high unless I am all out racing someone on a very long stretch of road. The Stillen is great because it's torque curve is so freaking flat from around 2k up to 6k...and than it does drop off sharply. But this is the rpm band that I spend 98% of my driving time in. While Stillen makes less "PEAK" numbers, their HP/TQ curves are flatter and thus better than Vortech and Procharger (I am not even going to bring Turbos into this discussion...that is an all different monster).
Not to mention, TQ is what you want anyway...TQ is what gets you off the line, TQ is that "pins you back in your seat" feeling. HP is a by-product of TQ. Just for fun, I am going to start a HP vs TQ thread and really get everyone on this board fired up!
BTW...not only is Stillen the most expensive kit...you also have to buy a new hood and a different strut tower brace...oh yeah, and if you don't like the look of a carbon fiber hood, you will need to have your hood painted. So not only are you paying $5400-$5600 plus shipping for the SC, you have to add in an additional $1300-$1500 in costs for the hood/paint/and STB. Doh! Now that BLOWS! Ha Ha Ha

The attachments are self explanatory. One dyno is with the Stillen Stage 4 SC (no other mods at the time) and the other dyno is includes my baseline run (at stock) and a run after I had installed the Stillen Stage 2 (later upgraded to Stage 4). Don't know that I've posted many attachments, so hopefully this works out OK.
The short of it is that I dyno'd (1) 232HP/220TQ stock, (2) 291HP/268TQ w/ Stage 2, (3) and 308HP/298TQ w/ Stage 4. The Stage 4 dyno was on a different dyno than the base and Stage 2, so the comparison won't be apples to apples, but that's how it goes. So I basically added 80HP and 80TQ from base to Stage 4.
Thanks for posting that. The only question I have is how does it drive? People are going to complain about #'s but I don't care about that. How does the car feel and overall how do you like the Stillen?
I had a Vortech, going tt ( motor getting built now). Vortech setup sounds like what you need, I only had one problem with it , it burned up one of my a/c lines. But at the dealership down here the guy with the stillen eats belts like candy,plus you need a new hood. Good inexpensive way to go FI is the Vortech, i had 347 rwhp out of the box.

the problem lies in that the stillen feels faster than it really is, so when you drive it, it's deceiving, until you race something with equivalent power and get pulled up top.
vortech is the way to go if you want a supercharger.

I doesnt matter what you think, those are SAE corrected numbers, its a fact his car put down that power, so again you are wrong. Not everybody wants turbo's or a ton of extra power. His car is quick, there is nothing hard to believe in regards to his story, not many Stillen owners even dyno their set-ups, prolly because the SS box is locked down, so they dont bother.

Regardless its been great to him, trouble free in the grand scheme of things and its fun to drive.

again, if the dyno was out of calibration, etc.......I just don't see that. I've got a good friend with the stage 3 and he was barely able to eek out 307whp with exhaust and good intake on a 'friendly' dyno. His car has the best midrange torque I've felt outside an LS-engined car, but up top it just falls on its face. It is fun to drive, but you get to the point where if someone wants to do street racing, they will be disappointed with the results of all that money.
Oh and I know the TN kit isn't the best.....but it was a great deal and it's easy for me to use. Other than that, shoot, if I could have afforded the JWT kit, I'd be sportin that now

Oh $hit, ok so the car had i/e/FD-the dyno is not funny believe what you want. FWIW-Z's around here dyno about 20-25whp HIGHER on a Dynapack than what they do on Dynojets, that would put him right where you think he should be.
