Question Vortech Filter Relocation

Has anyone tried adding a silicone hose and relocating the filter to the bumper, similar to a CAI setup? I was thining of doing this, but don't know if it will actually make a difference. Seem's like the stock placement on the filter would be prone to heatsoak since there is no heatshield and the SC unit itself gets very hot in little time.

I bought a custom made tube that goes exactly on top of the intercooler

I did it as well. If you search my previous posts in the marketplace, you will see the pictures i took of it. I even had a fitting plumbed in the intercooler 90 degree hose to recerculate the bov.

Could you provide some more pics of your setup? From your posts, I can only see the top part. Also, what did you do with the crank case hose?

It's really easy to do. I cut up my old Injen CAI and fitted it nicely back together using the aluminium pipe at the joints. Here are a few pics.

It is a great idea although you'll need to do it before you put the system in cause you can't get the stock Vortech filter out unless you destroy it.

I decided not to relocate my filter. And just got another filter from Vortech. Vortech is using a different filter so you can get the filter in and out easily. And I got a K&N crank case filter for the hose that connects to the filter. I have posted some pics for your viewing pleasure below.

So your saying if i relocate my filter up under the clip on top the FMIC it wont work as well? I'm getting so much heat soak, that it seems it will be work a lot better to relocate it away from sucking in all that hot air from the engine? I do like the K&N filter idea as well! Would seem like a good idea to do the on top of intercooler and k&n filter at the same time. Where can i get good parts at a cheap price to do this? Mainly for the run from the supercharger down?
Thanks,Mike

Post #5 are pics of my car roughed in, as you can see, as opposed to the stock Vortec filter, there is an open filtration element at the end of the filter. There is MUCH more sq. in of surface filtration than the stock Vort. filter.

A Varis intake and bottom shield would reduce temps of intake air.

I have 6" of Red Silicon inlet tube somewhere.

I made the mod mainly to ease filter removal for cleaning----It performed well

I have a question if someone could answer. I see that someone has added a small filter to the crank line? Looks like a good idea, but was'nt it hooked up to the main filter to get tremendous amount of suction from the supercharger. Now that it has it's own filter, it's not being forced through the power of the supercharger like it was designed. Confused, as i'm sure you are now? But is it going to make a difference not running through the main filter?
Thanks, Mike

I did the Mod--My car. Smaller filter is intake from ambient air as opposed to intake air.. Green is cool but performance is cooler
