Vortech (needed parts)?
Ok so tomorrow I'm buying a Vortech kit, complete and new! yay!
Anyway, I just wanted to make sure ona few things when it gets here....
Is there anything aftermarket I need"? A tech told me know its complete as well as the vendor.
Do I need to buy an Air/fuel gauge? Boost gauge? any other gauge?
I'm considering getting a 3 hole a pillar for the Z, I know I'd like boost, I'd like A/f, not sure on 3rd.... suggestions??
Also as for install, scale of 1-10 how hard is it to do urself? What do u bleive is normal price or hours for install by shop? Cheapest I heard by a known shop was $75 hour for 12 hours... Genesis Racing.. Then Sound performance was $1500..... no discount i gess anymore...
Only thing that scares me is drilling into block.... lol once u drill u cant go back... gotta be right... I "Re-installed" my supercharger on my cobra after it got ported and removed it. That was simple to me. I'm just touchy bout oil, and block.... I did some searching to come up with this info, I'd just like fast direct answers. Thanks!

As long as it is not the Tuner kit then it is complete. You really don't need anything to make it work.
I went with a set of colder spark plugs to help control heat. These are not needed. If you are looking for gauges, you might want to look into the boost, wide band air/fuel, and a fuel pressure gauge. In my opinion those are the most important gauges. If you go with a fuel pressure you might want to get one the fuel gauge adapters like this one...

It pretty much is the best way to adapt a fuel gauge to our 350z's.
The good thing about the Vortech kit is that it now comes with a special tool that is used to drill the oil pan hole. This makes the install of the oil fitting clean and simple. Usually shops around here will charge any where from $900-$1200 for the install. It will take a full work day to install it. The kit is straight forward and on a scale its around a 7 for difficulty. The most discouraging part is the wiring of the split second box. It is simple when you follow the pin codes but most people do not like to split wires into their ECU...but actually it is very simple.
They do sell wire patches that will allow you to install the split second box without cutting into your wires...like this one http://www.superchargersonline.com/p...umber=ASW-350Z
JWT also sells an oil pan spacer that is pre tapped so if you did not want to drill into your oil pan, it is an option. However Vortech will void the warranty on the kit if they find out you are using it since Vortech perfers that the oil to be drainned above the oil level.

My install was pretty easy but time consuming, mine took 20 hours with two of us working on it (the gauges added some of the time).
I expect that if you've installed a Vortech before you can do it in 12 hours, if not plan on a full weekend.
I think it's worthwhile getting a professional tune after the install, I did and gained 30 more HP from the tune. (285WHP after install, 315WHP after tune on dyno dynamics).
The instructions say it is optional to take the bottom of the oil pan off before drilling into the side of the oil pan that is still attached to the engine. I would recommend taking it off to make sure you get the metal cuttings out of the engine.
I also bought a NAPA belt (part number is in a thread here somewhere) instead of using the belt that comes with the kit. The one with the kit is apparently prone to stretching and needs tightening a lot. I have 2500 miles on my vortech and the belt is just starting to slip a little and needs tightening.
