Default 90,000 miles... can i safely turbo?

Forum 'lurker' since 2003, when bought my Z new, but my first post (Spend most of my time and $ modding my Porsche 911). Have really not felt the need to do any mods since the car is so damn good stock, and as my daily driver, didn't want to screw with a good thing. 90,000 miles and no problems! Anyway, the car is starting to get a little soft in the corners, so new struts are coming. I was thinking perhaps a turbo to spice things up too. I have narrowed it down to the Turbonetics single or Greddy double. Will my 90,000 mile engine be able to handle the Greddy, or should i go with the Turbonetics? I'm looking for modest power gains to maintain reliability. Even if i go with the T.netics, should i be worried with my high mileage engine? Is the Tnetics kit fairly 'plug and play' or does it need a lot of tuning? Would love to hear from any long term T'netics or Greddy guys. Thanks to all.

you may want to consider a new engine to be safe and protect your turbo investment or a total engine rebuild. SGP usually makes a pretty solid motor package and for a really good tuner near you for a compression test and discuss things with him

You certainly are the lurker with your 2 posts in 3 years. I'd say do it, especially if you've done all your maintenance.

If it blows than you have a reason to go ***** out, fully built.

You might want to post this in the FI section for more advice.

+1 on the 911 pics! ... Go Greddy BTW. It's WAY cooler to say you have the twins. Plus it makes for a cooler plate

Thanks guys... will post in FI section. Maybe wait until word on 2007 450Z?
Anyway, pix of 911... 3.0 twin plug, EFI conversion... Currrently building a turbo engine for it. One fun ride, just not reliable or practical enough as daily driver. (Hope the pix come through ok... not much bandwidth here)

Hi Juicer, 90K miles is probably still OK with FI, as long as you have been maintaining the engine carefully, and havent overly abused it with racing, high RPM operation...etc..etc. I would definately suggesting getting a full compression and leakdown test, just to insure your pistons, rings, and valves are all in good condition.

I dont think you'll have an issue with either a properly tuned and setup TN kit, or the Greddy TT kit. You could also do the JWT TT kit.

If you are going to do something with the engine and planning on going turbo, I wouldn't buy a new one just rebuild the one you have .20 over with better internals.

As long as a compression test checks out OK I wouldn't have any issues with a FI higher mileage VQ. My 120K mile VQ30 has see well over 350whp for over two years now with no motor issues, and that is with alot of passes at the trak as well.
