My buddy had 14.5k in mods covered on his GTI. The car had an engine fire that spread... built block, custom turbo work, etc. They covered all the engine work as well as his sparco seats, I.C.E., etc. everything damaged.
I know he went thru a lot of headaches with it tho.

I think AAA has a coverage up to 20k for the CEP coverage. Beyond that they require you to have a different type of insurance for high performance and show vehicles.

I have AAA and they didn't adjust my rates at all, they just asked for copies of reciepts and then told me to hang on to them if something does happen.

Progressive sells what is called a "stated valule" policy. That means you can state the value of your car + permanently installed mods to insure. It's more expensive, but worth it to some people.

Bear in mind, any time you drive your vehicle onto any track, your car insurance is void. If you ever wreck on any track, you will have zero coverage.

Most companies have a certain amount of extra coverage for modifications. Usually doesn't exceed $1000-1500 though. If you're concerned about getting your parts covered, be prepared to pay extra.

In my case, $10k of extra coverage was costing me an additional $360 for 6 months and I later decided to stop doing it since I pay something like $750-780 for 6 months of full 250k/100k coverage anyway - didn't seem worth a 50% price increase for what would really be 30% more coverage. And it'd only really apply if the car IS totalled. Chances are if I hit something and it was only a few thousand $ of damage, I'd just repair it myself anyway. And like I said, they cover $1000 for free anyway

You know I looked into this, as my GF is an insurance agent. In the Maryland Progressive manual it does not state this, I have been told every state is different. I only get $5000 of aftermarket parts coverage (4000 of whichI pay $20/month for) Only way to add coverage for me is if I state the value of the vehicle and have it looked over by a "specialist" basically Id be paying insurance as if it were a car costing much more....

Old thread, but noticed the OP was talking about GEICO. I have them myself and just thought I should add that it was no problem getting aftermarket stuff covered through them. I just had to fill out a list itemizing the parts I wanted covered.

And lol at getting asked about racing. I haven't been hit with this one from them at all in something like 8 years that I've had them.

In belgium, coverage is to expensive. You pay more coverage in 2 year then a built motor. This country sucks bigtime. for example: you guys pay like 12$k, maybe some extra for your setup. For that same setup I pay 18$k because of taxes and other import stuff. SUCKS BIGTIME

Wait a minute, I keep hearing from the Democrats here in America that you Europeans have all the answers. You mean it's not true??????

You pay more for insurance? Example: I pay $96 a month on a 350Z and VW Passat Turbo, full coverage, $500 deductable. How much you pay?

I have never heard of an company asking you if your going to race your car. If your car is wrecked in a competition, it will not be coverd. Like if you hit the wall on a track, you can buy track insurance for this from companys. I sell insurance. It is best to ask your insurance agent about things like this since the laws on insurance vary from state to state. If you have a 800 number for your insurance good luck.

No, and honestly, when I was active duty I never saw a price break..they might say they are giving you a break..but that just means bend over.

Like hotels - I went to VA last year, they quoted me a price for a room. I then later called again and asked for the military discount.

It was a hundred dollars more.

Hahah.

GEICO is tough to deal with, I know this from personal experience. Over here, they're having issues with the claims that's being made in their ads.

With State Farm here in IL, I don't have to pay anything extra or even tell them about my mods. I just have to keep all my reciepts. If the car is wrecked, the will pay full retail price for any aftermarket part that's damaged. I just got a full new set of 4 Volk SF-Winning wheels covered last month. Not sure how State Farm does it in other states though.

On the aftermerket parts deal, I was wondering the same thing. When I'm done with the car the parts value will be the same price as the car was new. $27,000 already with the new engine being built and I still have a few odd and end things to do to finish up the car. So with that being said driving REAL carful until I get coverage on all my parts.

Im with USAA right now.
I am with USAA also. I had a wreck in October and have been waiting on the repairs for over a month to be completed. I scratched up my wheels bad and
was trying to get them replaced, but no dice. They are discontinued. All they have did was give an "appearance allowance", basically not making me pay my 500 deductible. Almost 10k in damage to the car though.

+1. Geico/Progressive both suck when it comes to claims.

I was an agent for a year and now I'm an independent adjuster. Let me tell you the easy companies to work with: State Farm, USAA, and sometimes Allstate.

I'm involved with a personal claim with State Farm now, and it's been a cakewalk.

That's what they tell me in Ohio as well, Brian. What happened to your original Volks?

What gets me with wheels - the list price for the stock wheels is so high that it for sure is more than my aftermarket wheels - so they would save money if my aftermarkets were stolen vs. stock.

They got damaged when that STi wrecked in front of me two months ago. The glass from the accident got "sucked" into the wheels and thrown around, and brake fluid got on the spokes and ate through the paint.

Spoke with State Farm on that today, and in FL it's the same. Keep your receipts
