Default Thinking about TN ST & Risks. Some Questions...

im thinking about buying a used tn kit. i would use it for a year or two, at which time sell it along with my car for a gt-r, if i can find one

i will be running it at stock boost with no other mods on the car. i would be monitoring afr. where i live there are no tuners so if the afrs are not good it will be boated away for tuning.

right now i am looking at the price, cost, and risks of this endeavor.

my questions:

1. if TN will flash my ecu for me and i still need tuning, will i have to buy a stand alone or something like utec to tune?

2. once my ecu is flashed by TN, how would i go back to stock? any idea what the costs would be? any other considerations if i believe the kit may need to be removed at some point? (i think i would go for the oil spacer instead of tapping?)

3. i estimate my costs to boost at $6k (+ $tuning if needed). i want to plan for the worst: if my engine fails, i will go back to stock. i will try to sell the kit for $3k or whatever the used value of the kit is. would this $3k be enough for me to buy a replacement engine that will work with my car?

4. it seems like my max downside here is losing $6k+tuning costs and the max upside is i spend $3k for a couple years of boost...

anything else i should consider/look at? thanks..

Too much of a risk man. Even awesome set-ups custom tuned with fuel system and reasonable power levels can blow. Imagine if the motor failed and you had to spend $$$ on another stock block or a build (10K minimum) thats $$$ taken away from your GT-R fund. +1 on not going turbo.

hmm if the engine failed im thinking i could sell the st kit, get a new engine and stay stock.. total cost for the adventure after all said and done would seem to be $6k ish.. i could still afford a gt-r...

i see what you guys are saying though and appreciate it. ive been holding off on mods for a while now but am getting anxious. alternatively i was thinking of doing just n/a breathing mods but my car would still be slower than almost everything in its class and would cost me $2k all said and done

let see here..

safe setup.. its going to cost you about $8,000 - $10,000 tuned and installed with supporting mods...

you blow your motor.. thats $2,000 for the motor..

so now you are at $12,000 - $14,000 spent..

you sell the Turbo kit (look at used prices in the F/S Forum) $3,000

you sell your UTEC $600

so now thats $3,600 in return

you are now at $8,400 lost...

now think you have to pay to have the kit removed... thats $1,000..

so now you are $9,400 lost..

you can't take the clutch out and sell it.. you can't take the flywheel out and sell it.. you can't sell your turbo kit install amount you paid.. you can't sell alot of things..

so you are probably at a gestimate losing $6,000 - $9,000 depending on how many mods you did to make it safe..

so if you don't mind wasting $6,000 by all means go for it

I say build a GTR fighter. Make the GTR owners wish they built a 350Z TT.

Yet another "I want a safe and reliable setup with tons of power for the least possible cash" post.

Please read the top 100 questions thread, there is a blurb about F/I towards the end.

Link is in my signature.

Search

Technosquare can give you a stock reflash

3. i estimate my costs to boost at $6k (+ $tuning if needed). i want to plan for the worst: if my engine fails, i will go back to stock. i will try to sell the kit for $3k or whatever the used value of the kit is. would this $3k be enough for me to buy a replacement engine that will work with my car?
Ask a motor supplier

Again you want high power for low cost, like many members on this forum.

It just doesn't always work out the way you want.
