Default Tubonetics tune as safe as claimed?

Im really wanting alittle more power and dont care about the HP race everyone seems caught up in. I would like around 370hp and that should be obtainable on a single T Turbonetics kit with just the reflash. I want to know who is running the kit on a completely stock z and if they are impresed with its performance. Also Is the ecu reflash gonna be sufficient as far as reliabitlty is concerned.

On a side note I also would like to know how loud the BOV that comes with the kit is. I really dont want to look into getting the APS kit or any TT kit because I want to install the system and I also like the looks of having the turbo in plain view. Thanks for your input.

Just so everyone knows I did search but everyone seems to have alittle something done to their setup like exhaust, pullies and so on. This Is why I ask these questions about a completely STOCK z.

the BOV is reasonably loud, but it only makes the "whoosh" if you are "boosting." there is no noise when driving normally!

When my Z had the Turbonetics kit and was completely stock my A/F ratio was below 10 during much of the pull. Some people have luck with the reflash while others don't.

Perfect situation would be to get the tuner kit, 440 injectors, Walbro fuel pump and a UTEC and have it tuned.

Or just get the full Turbonetics kit and go from there if the A/F ratio is off.

The BOv is one of the best sounding BOV's I have ever heard. I was impressed with the performance increase with the Turbonetics kit.

hmm. well thats what im trying to figure out. i know the reflash turbonetics does is for 91 octane which is what CA uses. I wonder if using 93 causes it to run rich. When I first installed my kit with stock exhaust and no plenum spacer I was consistantly at 11.1-11.3 whcih was really good but once I modded it got rich. Im gonna call turbonetics.

No... the UTEC is a parralel ECU not a piggyback. it runs in conjunction with the stock ECU. You can find new and used UTEC's in the classified section here for around $700. You can get Deatschwerks injectors which is a modified stock injector for $300 for an exchange. I have found the Deatschwerks to be the best injectors out there. It requires no modifications to the fuel system or harness plug connectors. I know Sharif @ forged has a brand new Turbonetics kit for $4000 that he is selling for someone. That's an awesome deal. You are close enough to go there and have it installed and tuned by Sharif.

P.S. For around $6500 installed and tuned you could have an awesome kit.

I might have to look into that. Im waiting for my drag crx to sell before I buy anything else but if the kit is still available Ill give him a call. Once again I apreciate the input. Has anyone seen any complications with the kit that hasnt been posted(I know most of them from research). One thing that worries me is getting oil to the turbo.

There are about 6000,0000,0000,0,00,00 threads on this already..FYI..
In my opinion, it is not a preffered method of tune by our standards.

so is it better to just go strait to a Utec and tune with that or maybe get the reflash and then the Utec.(modded Z)

Can you use both in conjuction or ? is there and advantages to this ?

Thanks

Yes... you can use the UTEC with a reflashed ECU. There is no advantage.

From a safety standpoint I daily drive my car to and from work, to the grocery store, etc. Anyone who knows me and even some mag editors who have written up article onmy car will tell you I am by no means easy on my car. I boost the hell out of it and just generally drive like I'm in Le Mans every where I go. I now have 40k miles on my car with the kit with zero issues. And thats the out of box Stage 1 kit.

This would be great if everyone was at the same Climate, elevation, and had access to the same octane..As well as the wastegates making the same boost levels, I have seen kits fluctuate from 6.5 psi to 10.5..The lack of boost control is another minus for me..

+1 I love my kit but the lack of control is a constant concern for me. And like I was saying I live in TX so we use 93 octane unlike the 91 the cali guys use. Im highly considering putting stock exhaust back on and taking off my spacer to go back to specs if that would even make a difference.
