Yeah its pretty big, nothing like what you fellas have in the states. Its not massive with the 350Z, very few built cars on the road, in fact I think Im the only one. A few drift cars are running built engines over here with custom turbo kits.

Supra and skyline tuning is very big though. Its great having a zed that can surprise just about any car on the road!

Back to the UTEC, I do think with all the talk of the FCON of late, (which no doubt is a superb platform) that people are quick to dismiss the UTEC as its not the current 'in thing'. My tuner has given me a great tune on this ECU, and I believe that for alot people out there, it is more than adequate.

I once built a merkur xr4ti to race ricers in, it had no grill, the intercooler stuck out between the headlights. Best quote ever from a ricer, Whats that sticking out between your headlights? I say, Its the radiator..... I repinned an ecu out of a tbird into it. Straight pipe exhaust, sounded like a tractor at idle. 350hp in a junk beater. The look on a ricers face was priceless when i would leave them standing still.

It finally melted a piston at 25psi with no tuning.

Do you even have a UTEC?
So what is Shariff's thoughts on your problems?

True...you have to look at the big picture.

UTEC resolution = 10x10
VPRO resolution = 32x32

big difference in precise control. For NA/nitrous guys...utec is sufficient. If you go turbo....VPRO is the way to go. The UTEC will work fine, but the more boost you add, the more important precise control becomes.

isn't the UTEC more like 10X 36?

from 250 -9000 rpms in 250rpm increments.

You always put the smack down with positive proof and experience that it just kills me.
I have about 800 miles on my V-Pro and it is just night and day to the "other products" I have had in my car. At over 500whp @ only 12.5psi the performance is so crazy smooth and transitions so well that it feels like it just left the lot brand new with 550+ linear whp. The V-Pro is an absolute necessary evil when considering any serious whp.

i agree... .its for serious hps mostly.... and yah... its night and day.. its a stand a lone.. ..other systems can be very good, but nothin will come close to a stock feel 550whp car like the fcon pro can deliver...

its way more smoother =] i really rather see more threards on the other systems, cuase there is no arguing with the fcon, but maybe rather with other systems in the bellow 1000$ range... i still think utec is better, but i like the features and interface of unichip =]

i have heard from a few people that sharif tunes the cars to run a little rich, well really rich down low.

you car is bucking because of the tune, hands down. if part throttle is tuned correctly, which takes A LOT of time, then it wont do that.

my car is seemless at any throttle position now, i had some issues after i tried to make it really rich down low to spool the turbo up faster but now i have made the whole picture a nice 11.4 , well its perfect...

you have to tune it at full boost at 6 psi, 7 psi , 8 psi , 9 psi , 10 psi etc at WOT and it takes time to do.

the utec works perfectly if tuned right and costs a mere 800 dollars. i am running 18.5 psi on the street and it works fine.

you are comparing apples to computers here with fcon utec debate...

just my two cents..

the highest hp VQs in existence are running the split second setup not the VQ, so it musnt be the ultimate.

if youve got more the money and its no issue, go with the VPro, regardless of hp, look at sharif. if you dont have the money, and have a good utec tuner, already have a wideband, even if you dont, you can get them for 300, go with the utec.

i just bought a utec, map, switch, BN, for 800. already have a WB, but if i didnt i could get the tuner WB for 300. so thats 1100 total. thats a 1/3 the price of the VPro.

comes down to your financial situation, your location, proximity to tuners and their opinion, your favorite brand, whatever, just get what you want and get it tuned right and dont look back.

finanaltial and real needs...... just up to somebody.. sorry to see wher ethis thread has gone too, i know when it was first made it had a different intention but it was heading to be a utec bashing thread and staring people who were gettign the system and basically saying fcon pro is the only way to go...

much better if the thread is between other systems like unichip, split second, etc etc

I've been at SEMA, so I just saw this. Trefling, I tuned your car with the ATI Procharger, and was there really a point where you could feel the boost/UTEC "kick in". With the linear feel of the SC, there should be no point where it actually kicks or bucks.

I thought you are running the Greddy TT now...arent you? If its bucking or kicking....that wasn't my tune that caused it, becuase I didnt tune your car with the Greddy TT on it. Fill me in.

The biggest challenge with the current UTEC, is that it is impossible to do TRUE steady state dyno tuning of all of the vaccum and transitional load sites. And at higher boost, you race through the first group of load sites so quickly, that tuning them is virtually impossible. So, we do the best we can on the dyno, and then take it out on the streets for road tuning. I try to drive the car in as many mods, gears, and variations as possible, but I might miss a few spots. 98% of the time, its very smooth.

No doubt, the FCON is SUPER smooth, and that is the result of a true 32X32 high res ignition and fuel mapping. It's like butta.

Todd, you have spent weeks tuning your car..if not months...of course its smooth.

Audible Mayhem (Jeremy), I am not going to explain how I decide to tune engines. The strategy I employ is propietary....but it delivers SAFE and reliable engine power.....while leaving very little power on the table. Our track record speaks for itself...so I will leave it at that.

If anyone has any questions about anything, please call me. I stand 100% behind the work we do here, and I am very accessible. That said, I am not a machine, and I am not perfect. We are pretty good at what we do, but I am sure we make a couple mistakes from time to time.

Back from SEMA on Monday!

ok, well if the car was tuned for a procharger and he is running the same tune on a tt setup then i understand, i am just saying, it is the "tune" causing his issues and he doesnt need to blame the utec.

sharif, you have your ways of tuning the part throttle on the utec and i have mine.

I got it retuned when the greddy's were put on. I need to be clear about something, Sharif did do a great job with the tune on my UTEC when it had the procharger. There was a small dip in the power at 5k rpm that was there before I brough it to Sharif, but he focused in and fixed that problem and made the power curst perfectly linear, no bumbs or dips which is excellent

Most of the dyno charts have little blimps of power loss up the rpm band but he made it super smooth. I've talked to other shops about the UTEC issue being kinda choppy under partial throttle and they have all said it was the UTEC most likely and not the tune

I also need to clarify that Sharif did the tune when it was procharged. Mark (SGP)did the tune with the Greddy's. Both of those guys are some if not the most well known tuners for the Z. The UTEC ran the same from both tuners so there is no way the bucking feeling under partial throttle is Sharif's fault or SGP. It's the UTEC, no question

You definitely should not feel the UTEC kicking in. As for hesitations you need to tweak the tune by road tuning it. Like Sharif said, you can only do so much on the dyno.
